Hi

What shape reflectors am I meant to have on the rear of the Ford, I don't have any at the moment, it passed the MOT, but I have a feeling you are meant to have them.

Cheers

Dave

That's something worth looking up actually, I had it in my head that reflectors were made a legal requirement sometime in the early 50's.
Perhaps the rule whereby it doesn't apply if your vehicle pre-dates that law is why yours have passed?
I'd be interested to know the actual law as it stands just to clarify this.

Must admit I did wonder about the reflectors - a couple of circular Lucas jobs would probably look best on the back, similar in size to your stop/tail lamps

Could it be that reflectors are considered integral in the design of the 'D' type rear lights? Confused

No, I don't think D lamps give much reflection.

Reflectors are for bicycles.

Just tell 'em they fell off...My friend says that to Policemen about his front number plate & gets away with it... Laughing

G'day all, in Queensland where I live the law is that if the vehicle was manufactured without the item its not required, except for a stop/tail light which must be fitted in the centre or right side. But if you retro fit it, it must remain and work. Seat belts are a example.

JR the quality of plates they make in Queensland you need not only have to bolt them on you almost have to stick them. and they charge from $75 to $2,000 a set.

Since the subject of reflectors has never been brought up at my MOT station and I have never mentioned them I am not sure of what the law is.
I have to say when I go for my MOT that the mechanic is often left wondering if I am pulling at his leg or not....I usually get asked 20 questions like,
"Can I check the windscreen wipers" and I reply "No, the front window opens so it is not part of the test" then I usually get asked "Does it not have indicators or I don't see the master cylinder for the brakes or What are these rubber pipes for (Bijur Luvax System) or I don't see any seatbelts and so on until the test has been completed and with all the bits he cannot check it doesn't leave much left for him to check Wink

Hi

So, we don't go to an old car friendly garage, we should be aiming for a garage that knows nothing about the mot'ing for old cars. he he
