Just had a quote for the Tiger of £745.00 + VAT for the acid dip and £875.00 + VAT for the electrophoretically primed exterior finish from http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/?gclid=CLjSjciZppMCFQobQgodTRc8ow. Is it worth the money? Anyone had anything like this carried out before? Confused

Hi,

we had a thread about this company some time ago; I went to see them about getting the same treatment on a car body and was impressed by their approach and knowledge. I believe Aston Martin use them to treat and apply the primer to new shells.

If you can afford it you probably won’t beat the thoroughness of the de-rusting, cleaning and application of modern rust proofing products. I know 2 people who have used them and both were very happy. That said it’s difficult to quantify how much better this process is over and above sand blasting and traditional application of paint.

The thing that I feel is of real benefit is the protection this offers in hard to treat box sections, where rust can go unnoticed and its difficult to apply paint . This firm will drill these sections to ensure that the treatment is complete. Finally I don’t expect that firms like Aston Martin would use them without some pretty comprehensive due diligence.

I’m in 2 minds whether to use them , not from doubting the quality , but the Morris body I’m looking at is quite easy to “treat” at home and it’s a fair chunk of money to fork out.

Dave

XL: The best bet on this question is to look up the old topic, and make your mind up. On that topic, you will see comments from an expert in rust prevention. I'm sure he knows more than the rest of us!
