One or two people I know cannot understand the pleasure I get from owning vehicles that may not actually run. In my mind, they will all run one day, and are stored appropriately so as not to deteriorate. But am I alone? do you only like vehicles that run and can be used, or is pleasure in ownership (eg patting them on the wing from time to time, or simply looking at them and/or sitting behind the wheel Shocked ) enough for you?

Before it went away to be 'done' I would sit in the Dodge, wondering what it was like to drive it on the sepia roads of the 40s, and someone I know does just the same with his early 50s Chevy truck, idly whiling away a few minutes sat behind the wheel of his non-running project. Having a classic or vintage motorcar on the road is a bonus obviously, but does anyone else simply like owning old vehicles, even if they don't move under their own steam as yet?

(I went to see this sad little Triumph three years ago, but didn't end up rescuing it so is shown here simply because I like the photo Smile anyone who reads either The Automobile or Classic & Sportscar this month will see, in the discoveries sections, that this same Triumph Nine did end up being rescued and is to be restored. It had been parked in this open fronted shed since 1956 and had been in the same family from new, in 1934. I tipped off Michael Worthington Williams about it, and he passed the info to an appropriate club catering for owners of pre-war Triumphs.)

I used to hide in my old Somerset Very Happy
Although the car wasn't roadworthy I always found something and nothing to do with it or in it. With the doors closed and the daily grind left on the outside I did tend to sit on those big leather seats and daydream for a while.

Hi

A friend has lots of cars stored away, he keeps bringing the odd one out, restoring it or selling it to help pay for another project, if you have the space, grab what you can when you can, I know I would!

I used to spend many hours working on the ford, well actually sitting in the cab on a cusshion (Before I had a seat) and imagining to drive allong.

The best bit is looking in the shed, seeing the old cars/objects and knowing you have some history, and there is a chance oneday you will be able to drive it!

Cheers

Dave

To those, I try to find what makes THEM breathe hard, and equate my passion to theirs. I know some will never "get it", but many .... especially collectors ...... will figure it out. I like, among MANY other things, old archetectural stylings & building fascades. These were talented people who designed and built them. I`d rather visit old buildings & study them, than tour "modern art".

The wife caught me in the garage one day, just standing there looking at the car. She said, "I thought you were out here working, but you`re just HIDING!"
I replied, "No, I`m PLANNING!
