Thoughout most of my life SMT was not simply a bus company but also a large car garage with a Vauxhall / Bedford dealership. I don't recognise it as such but maybe the motor coach on the front of Rick's brochure is a Bedford.
I may not have correctly identified the bus but the roadscape looked familiar.
Assuming I'm right, the scene is within walking distance of my house and here's what it looks like this morning. Due to the construction of the pavement I don't think buses could pull off to that side of the road today but it would have given the occupants a nice view over Duddingston loch.

It certainly looks to be the same location Peter, I know exactly where it is.

Thanks John, it has been extensively remodelled and the plants allowed to grow up over the rocks but I can still remember it as a stopping place before they built the new pavement.

Yes, I used to travel past it every day and the view I have in mind is the rocky one and not the greenery one. I'm sure I have another old photo of the same view but so far it refuses to be found.

Yes, I quite agree. It's called Windy Goul which seemed much more appropriate when the wind howled between rock faces.

Hi Rick,
If you've got the time, I'd appreciate a scan of that leaflet. |
