|
|
having transferred the complete engine/trans into the '79 Spitfire 1500 from a '76 1500 equipped with a Piranha module, i can't recall how the three wires were connected to the car harness now. yes i KNOW i should have taken a snap; foolish me, but having not done that i need the info.
"BitsaSpitz" is coming along nicely otherwise; had a fruitful day reworking the '79 dash harness to take the old '76 column and wiper switchgear. actually got it working first time!
anyway; anyone recall how the Piranha module is connected? |

update notice: the bloke i bought the '79 from gave me a new in-the-box pertronix ignitor (what a chap!) to go on it; it will fire when the starter is engaged but dies when i release the key to "run" position.... ideas? |

Hi 62,
I guess one of the connections is currently (excuse pun) attached to a terminal on your ignition switch that supplies the starter solenod. This connection needs to move to a terminal that supplies the ignition and all the other normal running loads.

Is there a ballast resistor in the starter circuit, if so you may have the ignition wired in to the wrong side of it.

i believe both of you are right; i might have overlooked the need for a path to the main solenoid switch not provided for by the (aftermarket) ignition switch i'm using. AND (slash) or, the ignitor may need a ballast for proper operation. as i can only work on it during daylight, and this means the week-end, any detective work i can get done beforehand lessens the search on saturday. thanks chaps. |
