Hiya you lot, congratulations to everyone on a great site, Me and the long haired one are planning a 3 week trip in our Classic car. We are going boat to Caen through France just into Italy onto Monaco, then down to Southern Spain and then get the boat from Santander home. Is there a person, club, book or website anyone knows of that has any relevant information i.e. places to stay either guest houses Ymca or equivalent, places and roads to avoid (moggy conv 950 cc) etc that We could get in touch with. many thanks yours sincerely Paul and Gwenda

Paul & Gwenda. Sounds fantastic. I took my 1975 Renault 6 TL 1.1cc to France went from Calais-Le-Mans-Orleans-Lille-Calais. Sometimes the non-autoroutes (motorways) were far better with plenty of villages/small towns and stopping places (loo and food-drink). The free motorways are just superb for covering vast distance but check on toll charges, I was led to believe that some are based on time so speed and stops would make it expensive, hence the mixture. Avoid the large towns/cities.

I booked everything on-line and typed in search criteria such as 2 and 3 star bed-breakfast, guest houses and just choose what I wanted. The journey lasted 6 nights and was a mixture of sight seeing and driving.

Take an approved container of petrol and I worked on the basis that I started looking for the next petrol station at half tank and filled up. I found the ones attached to supermarkets or those in villages the best and paid in Euros (cash), some of the un-manned ones only take non-UK credit cards.

I have also used my modern car and applied most of the above except you have the speed to use the motorways.

Hope this helps and have a good time.
