my grandmother always had this on her sideboard, and i loved it when i was a child. she said her father took it from the hood or boot(not sure which) of a car he had in his scrapyard. this would have been 1925-1937.
anyway, she gave it to me a few weeks back to keep, and i said i would find out what car it came from. it has always been a mystery to me and her. i cant find anything like it in books or online. the only lead i ever had was that her father was in the habit of keeping the high end cars of the time for breaking.
have a look, and if anyone could help me, it would a real help, and put my mind at ease!!

People did mount mascots on their cars that were unrelated to the make or model of the car. If there are any markings on the underside of the lizard then that might point to a particular accessory manufacturer.

Well, if it's a salamander there was an Alvis Salamander. They were airport crash tenders 6 x 6 but that's too recent.

Be good to see the underside to see how it actually fitted to the car. Normally most mascots are on some sort of base which would enable them to be fitted to the radiator cap or bonnet.

i looked at the bottom of it, and it just seems to be melted alot. im starting to think it was a just a nice piece that somone welded top the bonnet of their car. i'll tak a pic and upload it it asap. thanks guys

Salamander wood burning heaters are very popular here in France and they always have a salamander on it somewhere either cast or as some of the older ones chromed. It looks like it could have originally come from one of them
