The other day I turfed the '59 A55 out onto the driveway, just while I have a sort-out in the garage. My timing was perfect as it was just in time for several inches of snow to pile up on it overnight.

Curious to see how well it'd cope with a few sub-zero nights of outside parking, I scraped all the snow and ice off it, clambered aboard, and popped the key in the ignition. It started on first turn of the engine, purring away quietly to itself as if it was a 3 year old car.

Modern cars may be better at eating up big distances, but in every other respect I soooo much prefer my oldies Smile

You should have not left it out overnight, you have now got a lot more rust, in the cracks and crevices. I saw plenty of that bad weather as a child, and walking on the canal frozen over. I got smart when I was 22 and moved to Aussie. been here 42 years.

I was driving home to Sydney last Oct. and it was snowing, not sleet. Two days before I was in 40 c. heat in Queensland. It was hard to believe.

Bit harsh that - Mog.

I am sure Rick didn't put the A55 outside just to see it covered in snow.

We have not had any real snow for 5 or 6 years, and the falls this weekend came as a surprise to everyone.

I have often discussed with other Australians that (As you may remember from 40 years ago) we do not have the space around our houses to garage all our vehicles, except Rick who has acres of land and garages that have enough room to take lorries and even space to lose several cars in!

Most cars, classics and moderns, got a good covering of snow and yes they will rust (and caravans will rot) more quickly than in your climate.

It is just something we have to live with.
