Alan dropped me a note, and the following piccies. Does anyone recognise what it came from????

ta, Rick

-----------------------

I have been trying to identify this radiator grill but without much success. It has been suggested that it may be from an Auburn on account of the three horizontal bars behind the vertical bars. Whilst these bars could infer a signature design, the few photos I've seen of Auburn grills seem to indicate horizontal bars possibly in front of the vertical. Also the base of my grill tucks in at the base, yet Auburn photos generally have them flowing forward at the base.

The rake of the grill and maybe its seemingly low height suggest it is off some sporting machinery of the early thirties.

I would greatly appreciate if you were able to positively identify this grill, which I aquired 30 years ago when we moved in. The previous occupant apparently kept the odd 20's or 30's car. He also left behind what may be a 40's or 50's Lancia clutch housing / Gearbox / diff assembly so it may be front wheel drive. I would like to see both go to a good home as space is needed for renovating my '29 Morris Oxford tourer.

Hi
Couple of thoughts here.

If the side elevation is correct with the rear edge vertical then the side of the bonnet is going to project a long way forward when folded over the top.
and if the holes down the rear edge of the pressing are for radiator fixing then maybe the orientation of the photo is correct as the rad probably is mounted vertically (I think).
However I wonder if the fold line at the side of the pressing should be vertical or possibly somewhere in between those two extremes, thus giving a less extreme rake to the grill.

It looks a bit 30s Jowett but they had more horizontal bars I think.

It could be from an Oldsmobile off the 2 seater convertible of 1935?

I don`t know....I think the 1935 Oldsmobile grills are a little more pointed. The one pictured above looks a little flatter.

It seems to have the look of an early 50's Ford Popular or Anglia somehow.
