I had a call from a fellow in British columbia, responding to a "wanted" add I have running looking for Thames parts for my 1/4T Van. Anyways, he tells me that while out prospecting, he came across a Thames and a Vauxhaul Viva at the bottom of a ravine. His theory is they were travelling together in inclement weather, and the Thames went off the road and the Viva followed:( Both are complete down to the batteries, so it looks as if they were fortunate enough to walk away from their 800' vertical foot adventure, and never look back.
Anyways, he was not particularily clear in his description, and he has no computer, so I can't send him pics to help him pic the Thame out of a lineup:)
But, he says it has nose ~30" long (leaves out Thames Trader), has a sliding side door??....and only one rear door??
I'm thinking it's likely an E83W that was sold as a partial (ie: chassis with front sheetmetal and windshield), and bodied for the task @ hand??
I asked him to get me pics in the spring after breakup, as it is likely under 20' of snow about now.
Not much to go on, I know, but anyone care to take an educated guess??

Buzzy: I asume that's a Brit term for what we would call a Caterpillar, or crawler?? That's a good theory, but the trick is to recover it for LESS THAN one can be bought for

| This is a funny thread James and I have been members of the metalshapers for years and have chatted over the internet. We email regularly, but somehow I forgot to ask about this truck in an email till yesterday. We did have a bit of fun with the pic of the E83W chassis on Ebay, another metalshaper we gave him the lead on that one "In need of minor repair" Thanks for putting up with us we will try not to make to big of a mess! tt |

I called the fellow last night to followup, and he hasn't made it back out there since the snow has gone:)....BUT, he did say he would try to get out there in a week or so, and take pics. He doesn't do computers, or digital cameras, so the hardcopy pics will be coming snail mail:) But I have already sent him some pics of Thames 1/4 (E494C) & 1/2 (E83W) tons, so he should be able to tell me if it is in fact a Thames or not upon his return.

Hi
This is a ploughing engine:-
http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/?pc=/events/2008/rempstone-steam-show/187/
See the amount of cable on the drum.
As for cost, hmmm, that maybe where my plan comes unstuck, would be a good fun though!
Cheers

Buzzy,
those steamers bring big bucks on this side of the pond, knowing how cheap James is.... well if he could find one that uses "Hot Air" he could self-propel (' ') the machine, I know James that's the pot calling the kettle black.......(' ') tt |
