I believe that the 1275 Metro engine is very similar to the 1275 Midget engine which is timed at, static 7 deg BTDC and dynamic 13 deg BTDC at 1000 RPM - with vac tube removed from dizzy.

Since I live in the mountains, I've learned that once you get the basic timing to start an engine, the best timing for any given engine is tha max advance you can get without pinging on acceleration. On my non-electronic compensated engines I have usually re-adjusted the timing 3 or 4 times in a day while going up and down the mountains.
Here is a typical drive from one of my offices to the other

There can be quite a few variations of timing, on the "A" series. It depends on many things, compression ratio, gearing, parts supplier at the time etc.
I will give you a setting based on eighties 1275 engines fitted with either the Lucas 45D4 41864, or the Ducellier 525294 distributer.
11 degrees BTDC @ 1500 rpm, vac pipe off.
I have several technicians data books from that period, so if you have a different distributer number, let me know and I will take another look.
