Okay, an odd question I know, but does anyone know what the instrument cluster should look like in one of the late Deluxe Ensigns?

The one in mine is nothing like a Vanguard item but is just 3 clocks in a flat plate. Doesn't look right.

It was detrimmed Vanguard and a reintroduction for 61/62 season only after it was deleted so may have had a basic dash?

Any pics?

Even if it is right, I don't like it! Maybe I'll do it gold/bronze or something.

I think it is correct. I have a drawing of the 1960/61 Vanguard Six panel and
whilst the earlier versions of it and the Ensign had a 180 degree speedo with minor instuments below, the later Vanguard has the same panel shape as you. It also has a central circular speedo but has four minor instruments grouped one above the other each side of the speedo.

Thanks Peter, yes I think so too.

Spent the day dismantling it and can tell it's a factory job.

Couldn't get the speedo apart. Got the bezel off but the glass was well and truly stuck. Sprayed WD40 inside and the needle seemed to be bouncing freely. Unfortunately on the road test it was exactly the same Sad

Also, it now looks like this:

Which suits the red interior much better I think.

Now that I've seen a picture of your speedo I see that my advice on the sticking was all wrong. Your pointer is plastic and not bendable. Probably isn't the cause of the sticking anyway.

The magnet disk at the rear of speedo face sometimes gets dust/corrosion speck on it - try WD40. make sure the cable is not kinked/badly routed or loose though.

I agree the metal dash plate does not look right - maybe original finish eg vynil/fake woodgrain came off - some cars had anodised finish with various pattern. The last Ensigns are very rare now as eveyone waiting for the new 2000 Triumph
