Hi
Has anyone got any good pics of vintage sidecars, and how do sidecars attach to the bike? How many mounts, what type of mounts etc?
Cheers

So is the irrational fear of paint called enamephobia? _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

Hi
Well, I better let on a bit, I have made the frame for mysidecar this morning, got no body yet, that is going to be wooden, but gave it a little ride, very scary!!! The way I have mounted it after research on the net, needs modding, as it is twisting hell of a lot! The front of the frame twists intowards the bike and then whips back out again, pulling the whole bike to the side suddenly! Nearly hit the pavement several times!
I was thinking maybe just mount it in a rigid way, where there is no ability to lean round corners liek there is just now.
Did about 3 miles through nantwich on it, had some huge ques behind me! hehe
Cheers

If you like older ones, how about this
This is a photo from the family albums, and shows my maternal grandparents and my mother - she was born in 1914, so I reckon the photo was taken in 1917. The bike is, I think, an Alldays & Onions. This would be ideal if you are a sufferer of enamelitis |

Alldays, someone on here will like this!
I do like early stuff, mainly autocars, but then a sidecar is nearly a tricycle, and many early cars came on from tricycles didn't they!
It is a nice sidecar!
Cheers

Super photo Mike. I love the wicker sidecar and the frame looks so home made. I guess we live in a different age. Thanks. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

Buzzy Bee, am I reading things right? It seems your bike can lean independently of the sidecar. Did anyone ever do that? Certainly I have never had one that was not a rigid entity.
As I remember the sidecar was mounted rigidly to the bike at three points and it was important that the bike leaned slightly towards the sidecar and that the sidecar wheel toed in towards the bike slightly. Though I cannot recall the actual lean or toe-in figures recommended. _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you

Hi Jim
Back when they brought in the first engine size limitation for learning on M/bikes, they left a loophole which allowed unlimited engines if riding a combination on "L"s.
Carrying of passengers was forbidden unless they were qualified bike riders so a company brought out a skeleton rig called a Sidewinder which was hinged so that the bike rode like a solo but fulfilled the letter, if not the spirit, of the law.
On that the chair wheel also leaned.
There is a Sidewinder on the market now but the chair wheel stays "vertical" and there are no special provisions for learners on combinations these days. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.
