Was having a flick through a book I got for my birthday, all about tractors and trucks. One section covered tractor pulling contests, using either standard tractors, or majorly modified jobs running multiple jet or V12 aero engines for example
I've not been to a tractor pulling contest - do they happen often in the UK? I'm sure 'er indoors would be as keen as me to go to one of these events, if they're held here
cheers

You need to come here for a visit. Truck and tractor pulls happen all the time in our area. Everything from the big monster trucks, 2, 3, or 4 engines and jet powered tractors to stock and slightly modified tractors. Also classes for antique tractors. Even garden tractors with v8 car engines to stock 1-lungers. A little bit of eveything and they have events inside and outside.
It's been a long while since I've been to one but I like the outside events best. Inside it's too loud, too much smoke and too many fumes and this from an old drag racer with nitro in his veins, heehee!

Went to one of these events in Florida a few of years back at the Florida Flywheelers showground. One of the coolest sounds a tractor can make is to shoehorn in a Small Block Chevy V8.
These "good 'ol boys" knew their stuff and when the tractor pull started there was a whole heap of hootin' & hollerin' y'all.
We absolutely loved it - and the folks there were outstanding, my biggest disappointment is we've never been back across when one of their "Open Events" has been scheduled - if you're ever in Florida when they have one, don't miss it it's fabulous.
The actual showground is closed to members of the public except on three or four days a year as its a historical community where the members built a period town and then run the stores, fire house, saloons, churches, car lots, etc for their own amusement and use.
