|

A mate of mine has an old British vehicle that he intends to restore. It has no number plates and never had a Log book when He bought it , So he does not know the original registeration number . It does have chassis number , engine number , body number and from that he has ordered and received a BMIHT Heritage "birth" certificate showing exact date of build. My question is...... how and when does he apply for a new log book ? I mean at the moment its far from roadworthy so do you need for it to be roadworthy and MOT,d before applying and would you need a relevant club headed letter supporting conformation of build date and place ? Any info or help appreciated , cheers "MO" _________________ A vehicle can be restored at any time, But is original only once ! |

Pop into your DVLA local office or ring them at cardiff. Take the persons full name though! They allways tell you different things, depending on who you speak to, then they ask, who told you that, "well erm, they didn't give there name". If you can say it was joe bloggs from such and such, they can't say much! hehe
Cheers

It will greatly assist your mate to join an owners club. The DVLA has recognised specialists in most clubs who assist with this sort of issue. You will almost certainly find that the number that they issue will be a non-transferable number

I've a feeling that you MOT it on the chassis number, then apply (dating certificate in hand) for an age-related no. When issued with the reg no., you can then have the MOT doc updated. At least I think that's how it is - I was able to get the Dodge registered before going on the road as it's MOT exempt, but for example with the grey Oz ute, I'd have to put it through the MOT first, then apply for a V5C logbook.

I would have thought that you have enough evidence to submit to the DVLA so that an age-related reg can be issued. It will just be "un-licenced." Owners clubs are there to help and surprisingly so are the DVLA!! _________________ Alistair

G'day All.
I take it that all vehicles that are registered or unregistered that are sold requires a "Log book" which it appears that the book requires the logging of the previous owners of the vehicle, change of engine number etc.
There are no "log Books " in Oz except for the reporting of the activities of heavy vehicle drivers not the vehicle. Vehicles are supplied with a service record book and is only good for the warranty of the vehicle, its nice to be able to follow the history of the vehicle if the owners keep up after warranty.
When I register my 58 Hillman Estate all I need is a Roadworthy Certificate issued from a local service station which is approved to issue them as to the safety of the vehicle, the engine number and chassis number. Fill in the form at the Dept of Transport providing your identification (drivers Licence) estimated value of the vehicle (by yourself) for Sales tax and your registered. If you dont have those numbers they will issue new ones for you. You have the option to register the vehicle for club use if you want.
