last question for today (honest). are there any benifits of fitting pancake filters (those flat chrome ones) rather that standard paper ones?

Keep your car standard. It's a lot easier to service if it is as the maker intended it to be. I found the HS4s would not richen enough to mess with the air filters. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

did you try to change the needle? i was reading the midget restoration manual and it discussed that they changed the exhaust on the 1275/1500 to make it a lot quieter. i pulled up next to a MGB-GT, and the noise coming from the exhausts was amazing.... i would like a more grunty exhaust note (not in a boy racer way mind!!! ) and hoped that maybe changing the filters would help _________________ 1985 Mini Mayfare (1275)

Changing air filters wont effect the noise the exhaust makes, but might make the engine sound a little different. |

My 1500 has a standard exhaust on it and it gives a lovely little rasp when a bit of throttle is used. You will soon get sick of having to turn the radio up on long trips if you mess with exhaust/filters. Also while I am here, I keep hearing other people (MG owners club) whinging about the 1500 overheating but I do not have this problem even in heavy traffic (stuck for 1 hour on the M25). I think the reason is I use 10/40 semi oil and I have done away with the heater valve at the back end of the engine and put a straight through piece of hose. A double skin heat shield between the exhaust and carbs is a must. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

my engine overheats as well. though i found that even with the heater in the cold position, the cab always became hot! i will pick up a new heat shield as my current one looks knackered!

If some of your cooling tubes in the rad are blocked that will cause it to overheat. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1
