I took these pictures about 10 years ago when hunting for parts for a mk2 I was restoring at the time.

A lot of these jags came from the local airbase when their owners failed to return from duties overseas. (I was told vietnam was most likely)

They would be found near the accomodation blocks,or left in garages hired to the airmen. When they were eventually found many of the vehicles had fallen into disrepair.

The owner of the local scrapyard recovered them ,and then they were stripped to the bones by other american owners of classic jaguars to keep theirs running.

I have photo`s of many cars in this setting,as I walked around on this spring day,I thought of those young men who came to this country from many parts of the states, and purchased what was then a truly british product.

When a very young lad in the sixties, and when all things american was fashionable,we thought a saturday spent on the "BASE"was as near the states you would ever get!!!!

AS you drove in the gate it was another world, everything was "V8", and as america, everybody was "Theatrical".

I just could not wait to get my own" V8" powered machine!!!

Mk2, S type and Mk VII. How sad to see them end up like this. If you find a Mk IX let me know - could do with the front brakes!

there's a few old Jags, inc a Mk7, dumped not far from here. There is/was a Jag breakers in N Wales, although it was mostly XJs and a few rotten Mk2s when I last went (some years ago).
