In what model of car did you pass your driving test.
I worked with the Post Office and we had our own instructors and examiners. I passed my driving test in a Morris Z Type van MYF 229. I always remember that van. I tried to buy it when it was scrapped but we were not allowed to tender for them. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Morris 1100. Soon after I bought a 1300GT, let my instructor take it for a drive and he was really envious. |

My sister's 1953 Ford Prefect. Nice car but didn't have enough gears.
After using hand signals for the first half of the test the examiner insisted I use trafficators for the second half. He soon realised why I was reluctant although he didn't comment and didn't fail me. The clamp that held the switch
in the centre of the steering wheel had slackened and I had to wind the switch knob around the wheel several times until the cable resisted the switch pressure.

I was convinced that nobody passed first time, so I applied for a test before I had even booked any lessons. I remember that there was a waiting period of around ten weeks for a test, so I thought I would have around 10 lessons before failing my first test. I told the driving instructor that I wanted one lesson each week and one prior to the test. When I turned up for the first lesson, I had just received my test date.....3 weeks
Three weeks later and after four lessons, I passed in the schools 105E Anglia
I think that I was just that little more relaxed, thinking that I would fail and continue with lessons until a second test, and that may have had something to do with my pass. _________________ 1964 International Harvester |

Had driving lessons in a ford fiesta popular , 20 in all due to the lenght of time waiting for a test , the only reason I passed 1st time was I stalled the car twice when I 1st set off so thought I'd failed . |

'twas 1987 - Current model Datsun Cherry. The instructor used to crunch extra strong mints constantly through my lessons. Passed first time though so obviously knew what he was doing.
First car was a 1979 Mini Special. The following year, (whilst at 6th form)we were encouraged to take our advanced tests as it would be subsidised by the local authority as part of a safe driving scheme for young drivers, (or something). Used to go out in the Mini every Sunday morning with a local police driver who would impart words of driving wisdom interspersed with useful evaluations of any attractive women we passed .
Passed the advanced test but on the hill start, the police evaluator bloke pointed out that the handbrakes lack of effectiveness in holding the car was in fact "an endorsable offence". Fortunately, he went on too admit he'd picked the steepest hill in Blackpool and my clutch control "wasn't bad under the circumstances". Phew....

March 1964, two months after my birthday. It was in a Minor 1000, belonging to Kenning school of motoring. All the apprentices were given 10 free lessons plus the use of the car for your test. I was asked to use hand signals as well as indicators, and it was a very wet day! The cold and wet were forgotten when he gave me my pass slip. |

19th May 1982 in a '73 Hillman Avenger 1250 DL. Liked the old Avenger and acquired another low mileage example (1972 1500 Super) last year. |

21st of March 1956 in a 1951 Austin Hire Car (like an FX2 taxi, but with a front passenger door) one month less a day after my 17th birthday. First time with no professional tuition. Asked to turn in the width of the road I asked "Oh, a three point turn?" The examiner said "No such thing, you will need more than that to turn this". I surprised him by turning in three, but he did not realise that with a 26 foot turning circle I needn't have reversed at all!
The car belonged to the family firm, but I still have it in my garage! If I could get the hang of that Photobucket thing I would post a pic here! _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you
