Hi, was wondering if there was anybody out there who could help me please, ok pretty please.

For quite a while now I have been trying to get hold of an old tent of some description but to no avail. What I want to make is a toilet tent/cubicle that will look good along-side my van (1930s model)..... you know what us girlies are like Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

I can get the canvas, no problem, can buy the wooden poles and rope etc, again no problem. What I am having trouble locating is the connectors that the poles go into to form the structure. I remember them being made from metal when I was a kid and went camping. Let me just add at this point that wasn't in the 30's though, I am not that old!!! Obviously an old canvas tent or awning would be ideal. I have seen several for sale, but they were all in very good condition and were priced accordingly Shocked The best place to find them is the local tidy tip/recycling centres, but they won't sell anything to members of the public (what a waste!!!)

So if anybody has anything that would do, or can point me in the right direction (the cheaper the better) I would really appreciate it.

Hiya Cornishlass, over here we call 'em eyelets. They are available in various hole sizes and are fitted with a 2 piece die that is hammered together to fold the edges over. If you can't find them there, I could send some to you, cheers, Col.

Cheers for that Col, but I can get hold of eyelets here. Hadn't thought of using them.

I can see it working well for the tent sides Cool. I had visions of it having a pitched roof, so unless I have a pole going up through the middle Shocked Confused Shocked (okay for blokes as it gives something to aim for, but not so good for me Wink ) I don't know how it would work without some type of joined tubing to form the pitch. If all else fails I expect I could just have a one-way slope from back to front.

CL

The period marquee that my Car Club uses has steel couplings between the poles.

If you could provide the diameter of the poles you are using, and the angles you want to join them, I could make up couplings in steel. I only have the ability to weld steel, but someone on here more skilled than me, could probably do the same thing in aluminium.

Each coupling could have one or more "prongs" on it that would go through the eyelets in the canvas.

Hi Brian

I knew there must be a simpler answer than I could think of (doh). Sometimes I just can't see the wood for the trees Confused Confused Confused Thanks for your offer, but it would probably be less of a hassle for you if I got somebody to weld some tubing together for me down here. What a little auperstar you are Cool Cool Cool

Yep, definately the way to go Very Happy
