I think Jason from this forum used chrome paint on his Alvis. Might be worth asking him where he got his from as it did look good

looks interesting, I would like to know how it compares with normal chroming price wise. this might be the answer though for mazak parts like door handles or boot or bonnet moldings because if the process can be applied over any surface then the pitted item could be filled with ordinary filler and finished to a better standard than just re chroming the pitted item.

there is at least one company locally that does such spray on chroming!!
problem is that the finished article has some orange peel effect which normal dip chroming does not so if it can be sanded down and polished like normal paint than the look will be spot on but if not than it will look a bit awkward when compared to proper chroming!!

To reply to richard, what jason has used is a spray can and although its not that bad from a distance, close by its obvious its not chrome, I know cause I have purchased some of it too and used it on the hunter's dashboard where the plastic had a sort of chrome effect wich through the years had worn off!!

How hard / durable is your Chrome Effect?
Very, we finish the process with a very hard and durable clear-coat which is the same as the finish on vehicle body paint or most alloy wheels.

Can you chrome engine blocks and exhausts?
No, we can’t spray parts that get extremely hot i.e. above 200 degrees. Any parts or brackets that hold the engine or exhausts are fine.

used a similar stuff a few years back when doing some advertising models... that stuff was a 2 pk paint with hardener and gave a durable finish.

the paint was a nightmare to spray though, its runnier than water, you can see in the video's on their site that they absolutely flood the parts and the paint is dripping off in places. very difficult not to get runs or sags.

as with all painting and especially with a high gloss, if the surface preparation is not perfect then you will see every imperfection magnified!

most chrome trim on modern cars is plastic... guess its something like this.
