Hi, first of all this is not really a caravan Smile , its whats left of a showman's living van dating anywhere from the 1900s to the 1930s
and looking at the state its in , i.e. rotten as a pear, lost its under works, cut glass windows missing, etc, etc, i think the owner should be paying someone to take it away ! OVM Smile

New roof, new floor, new walls, new interior, new windows and it will be back to its original self..

Just like Geronimo's axe. New handle and new head, but otherwise, original.

Here we go , i think that these vans fit the description of the Ebay van better then said van Very Happy i took these pics some years ago having know of these van`s for a least the last 35 years, they where on display in a local rural life museum, this was closed down and the content`s sold at auction, the van with the carvings on, was built by Orton and spooners, from Burton on Trent, built around the 1900s, the van was constructed with the "scenic" fair ground ride that it travailed with.
The second van was made by Brayshaws and was in better condition than the Orton van, both very restorable Smile Smile OVM

Personally I have burnt better garden sheds than this example on Ebay. Sad

All the time, trouble and expense in restoring things,I think you want something of quality at the end of it,and something practical to use. Very Happy

If you hauled something like that to a show, the livestock exhibitors would want to keep some old sows in it overnight. Shocked

I cannot even get excited over living vans, some look like sheds on wheels, and have had so much work done to them, the owner proudly states that the draw bar is the only original bit left. Sad

A nice small showmans wagon is the way to go,if you want something bigger than your caravan. This belongs to Ray Page.
Found in north wales, and owned by a lady for many years. Very Happy

And this is his small Bedford lorry he tows it with. Very Happy

I'm sure i've seen Mr. Pages van and lorry at the Dorset steam Fair. Its a great combination. There are some amazing showman's vans there, last time I counted at least 40 around the show. Fantastic interiors!!

I don't think the ebay item is a showmans van at all. What it is closest to is a shepherds hut with roof lights. Not unheard of. Or a road builders wagon or other commercial type. Again not unheard of to have roof lights. Its certainly not the romantically imaged vehicle that some might believe.

Not every travelling worker lived in a solid hardwood and crystal glass cacoon. They were the minority. Like house dwellers many lived in poor and rough conditions as part of their work which necessitated moving around. eg shepherds.

I think this wagon was used behind a steam roller???????
