This evening I went to see the Monte Carlo Historique stopping at the Dumfries checkpoint outside the Cairndale hotel. Here are a few photos.

Well done with the pics young man, it appears somewhat frantic with everyone making haste to get through the checkpoint. Some of the club members were at the start in Glasgow & then had a classic run to Loch Lomond - unfortunately I was unable to attend. Much better night than the last one which had horrendous weather. Thanks for posting, excellent photos. Got any more? Watched some of the cars pass through Ayrshire last night and could not get any good photos of them unfortunately.

I hope you don't mind Fraz, but not wanting to start another thread on the same subject I thought I might add a few of the images I took outside the old RSAC HQ building in Blythswood Square earlier in the evening.

Your images are excellent, and thank you for sharing, mine however don't match your quality, but at least give a wee taste of the start -

Nice pics. I really wanted to go to see the start in Glasgow, but due to other commitments, the best I could do was to go to Dumfries in the evening. Looks like it was very busy at the start!

I'm delighted to say the Glasgow start had a real buzz of anticipation about it. The images I took were about 5'ish, so the crowds hadn't really started arriving, but from about 6 onwards you couldn't move anwhere near the RSAC building. It was a pleasure to watch so many interested people getting enthused about such a historical event returning to not only Glasgow, but Scotland as well.
What I particularly took pleasure in was the number of families who were spectating, lots of dads and sons and I don't mean grown-up ones, 10, 12, 14 year olds ......... and mums and daughters too. There was a full range of ages there and that to me also means the next generation of enthusiasts are in the making. Perhaps it even raises the question the classic vehicle movement should consider making our hobby more accessable by having occasional events in city centres - would it work I wonder?

Another aspect of the evening that did surprise me was the number of European entrants there are, especially French ones - its a long journey for them to start here only to return to not far from where they left (does that make sense?). That said, I can understand why they would come, who wouldn't if they had the chance, I certainly know I'd travel to somewhere far from where I lived if I could choose my starting point.

All in all an excellent evening. Very Happy

Yes, I noticed that were a lot of entrants from Europe, they all seemed very enthusiastic about the run through Britain, and were happy to talk about their cars in the brief period they were stopped.
Also, I agree, there did seem to be a few young people there latterly, and I think that town centre/ city centre events could be a very interesting concept which should perhaps be explored by a few clubs. I'd certainly be prepared to take part in such a thing.
