A couple of weeks ago. Me and some friends went to rescue some old cars. They have been stored inside a mine for 25 years.

Nice find. Certainly beats all those supposed barn finds with bits of straw in them. Wink

Ford Taunus 12 M Super.

The plan for the cars is to either restore or use them for parts.

I am off in the morning to look at a car that has sat in the same garage for 28 years, the owners said it was their fathers car,and could I take a battery as it has been removed but sits on the bench and they were not sure if it would work. Exclamation
I told them not to touch the engine after all that time, and it needs working on before even trying to start it. I will let you know how I get on.

The Triumph that was damage by the rock. Has now been stripped of parts. And scrapped. The Taunus 12m has been sold to a young man who will restore it. The beetle has also been sold off.

The Taunus Transit pickup will be a new project for the local car club i am a member off.

Very interesting.

What has happened to the Ford Anglia 105E, please?
I owned one of those, a 1964 deluxe, registration number 902 ACA from 1988 - 1993. Excellent car it was too.

Find some bricked up railway tunnels and you might find some engines.

It is said that the scrappage and sold on records for steam engines don't tally with the total on BR lists before the end of steam.
Conspiracy theorists say that a number have been mothballed just in case they are ever needed.

The cars where going to the scrapper 25 years ago. And to save them they were allowed to store them inside the mine. And then the miners needed the space, and we had to move them.

Oh no not the old steam reserve turkey again, records do have gaps but maybe less than a few dozen engines not the several hundreds or even thousands that would be needed to run an effective railway. The cutting up of most engine classes is well documented including almost all the engines of the ex LMS 8F or BR 9F which surly would have to be the type to form the backbone of any steam reserve and anyway after Mrs Thatcher closed all the mines in the 1980s what would we fuel them with!
