always liked them, and should have kept one of the 3 i've had on the road over the years.they seem to be pretty rare these days.however, one chap has just put 7 up for sale on ebay Shocked there still appear to be plenty of A35's on the road though!

I like them! There's the odd one around here that pops out for shows, but sadly (just like A30/35's) most are oop North and very few seem to be used as daily drivers anymore, which is a shame.

Mine was a daily user for many years, bought new by my Great Uncle from Pike's Garage in Exeter in 1960. I took my test in it - and passed - despite the examiner not being keen on the lack of seatbelts Smile Sadly now needs a fair bit of tlc, one day...

If a new o/s front wing is out there, steel, for a Mk1, I'd be interested to hear about it. There's a n/s one that appears on ebay quite often (and is on there now) but mine on that side isn't too bad Smile

If it was me I would still buy the one on ebay and when you eventually get the side you want fit the 2 new ones.

I've had mine for 4 years this summer, and I love it to bits. I did a bit of a part-restoration on it, then was pressed into service as my daily. At uni I have my Land Rover here due to lack of decent parking and any sort of cover, but through summer the A40 is the daily driver.
It's also done a lot of miles on summer roadtrips!

You must live near Banbury then! (or at least Oxfordshire-ish)

That is Gab, the A40 club chairman's motor. He has had it since he was in his teens I think, and it really is a wonderful example, and a very early one at that (flying A bonnet badge, small rear numberplate light, lack of boot trim, single bootlid support strap... I could go on!)

I've liked these little cars for years but never had the chance to own a one until recently. Only within the last week or so I viewed an A40 which was up for auction from a well known website.

The listing said the car had done a genuine 17000 miles with two previous owners and was in great condition for the year. The seller was asking £555 starting bid. It was advertised as having a great engine and box and good interior other than it needed a carpet. I decided I'd like to bid, but had to see it first. (I won't buy anything big without seeing it first)

On first impresions it look ok, untill I started adding everything up. Confused

The seller couldn't start it, no battery or petrol (He'd started the car months previous with a cup full of petrol down the carb. Confused)
No clutch, no brakes, He said it needed a clutch master cylinder and looking at the underneath of the car, although it wasn't holed on the floor, it was very rusty and would need all new brake pipes and shoes. Did the engine run at all, would it need removing and rebuilding? It did need weldng in a few places, but as I said, it was in pretty good nick anyway.

A new exhaust was needed, two tyres, a new front screen rubber, rear seat (Sun had corroded it over the years) New door cards were needed ast hey were all warped with damp. Then if I was doing all that to the car, I would have liked to finish it off with a respray. Nothing like this was mentioned in the listing. I would have been highly annoyed if I'd bought the car without looking at it. Mad

Unfortunately there was too much work to do within the budget I have to spend, so I left the car alone. I'm sure with a bit of money & hard work spent on the car, it would have been a very solid A40.

Whilst on the subject of the Austin A40, here are two that a friend of mine owns. The red one is used all year round, in all weathers and is used as his main car although he has a newish Mercedes.

Hello,
Who are the best suppliers for front and rear screen rubbers.?
Also I need a nearside rear light lens for my car. And a good set of hubcaps. Any one out there who can help.?

The rest of the car is really good, now I have it in my workshop and have given it a good look over.
The interior needs a new set of carpets.
I purchased it on the spur of the moment after going to look at some other items the seller had.
It is a genuine 50,000 mile car,2 previous owners, and stored for many years in a huge hanger building with many other cars.
The seller had Mot`d it last year thinking he would take it to some shows, but it never got used.

Front screens are currently being remanufactured, and are being tested by the club, after lots of problems with previous sample/prototype seals. I think soon all the problems will be gone and we will have some decent screen rubbers!
Rear ones are already readily available, again through the club but I can't remember who the actual supplier is.

The standard chrome wheel trims can actually be bought new from several places for around £60, but I do not know what the quality of the chrome is like? The A35 wheel trim is the same, and you often see many at autojumbles etc.

Apart from the horrific wheel trims, your car looks rather nice! I have seen it in pics and for sale before. It is a 948cc or 1098cc? Reason I ask is it looks to be a reasonably early MK2.

No I live in Warwick so Gab had ventured up the road to Bourton on Dunsmore where the Southam Rotary Club hold a classic car show.

i think the chap selling on ebay is the person in today's CCW on p.3.he is clearing out his yard in Swindon,100 projects, including over a dozen A40's Shocked -very tempting!
