My late Uncle Stan emigrated to Australia in 1948 as one of the many "ten-pound-poms" (for those who haven't heard the term, Oz was offering an 'assisted passage' at a cost of 10GBP to encourage immigration of enterprising individuals!). He sent a couple of snaps back to Dad of the "Chev" he bought. Can anyone identify the model? It's obviously pre-war, and I guess it may well have been bodied locally (Holden?).
On the back of one of the photos Stan had written the following: -

it is a 1936 Chev Standard Roadster (minimum chrome, straight beam front axle). I think 84 MPH would have been a bit ambitious however probably anything over 60 on the roads in those days and you would feel like you were flying LOL
My father had one of these with wire wheels and side mount spares off a Master model which we sold recently.

| That certainly seems to be the one, David! Your father's car looks a nice one. I'm assuming Stan's had a RHD conversion since it only has a right-hand wiper, and your father's car appears the same so I guess you're also in the Antipodes? Was the figure of 24.5mpg a bit optimistic as well? |

Yes the car was in Australia for most of its life but is now in New Zealand.
Prewar, all the Chevs destined for sale in Australia were manufactured in Canada as right hand drive running chassis and bodied in Australia by Holden Motor bodies.
Driven steady, I would think that 24.5 MPG would be quite possible.
