Yet another new project arrived here this morning. It was last on the road in 1975 and had been standing in a local garage since then.

Fantastic looking cars, it was as if the bosses of the design studio let the youngsters have a party and this is what they discovered the morning after. Excellent find. |

Always thought they were strangely proportioned cars but certainly stand out now as they did then - cat obviously is very discerning too.
Hope to see it restored and running as not common _________________ Rover P2

Oh well done!
What a superb buy. Your photos are first class but can you tell us some more about the car, please?
I am really looking forward. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Well it's in need of a full restoration really. I bought it from my local garage, I've always fancied one so it was too much of an opportunity to miss. The last owner bought the Atlantic in 1959, and is not very well so he decided to let it go to a new home. It will eventually have a full respray as the paint is flaking, it was originally a very pale metallic green. There's a few body repairs to do as well, the front wings don't fit very well due to old accident damage and there's a few pop-riveted plates hiding under the paintwork here and there.
The garage I bought it from (after freeing off the seized clutch and brakes) put it in for an MOT and it failed on one bald tyre, footbrake and handbrake inefficient, wipers not wiping and a numberplate bulb. The brakes seem to have started working with use but will be bled anyway. I've already replaced the tyre and made a start on the wipers, the arms seem to have come loose on the spindles. The plan is to rectify the MOT faults (plus the rust in the drivers floor, which the tester didn't think was an issue due to the seperate chassis) and get it in for a retest.
Although the gearbox has a noisy first gear, the engine seems excellent and pulls like a train, also I reckon the seats can be cleaned and fed successfully with a bit of Gliptone |

What a 'find'!
I can't get over how original and unmolested it is - you've certainly got a remarkable opportunity here ....... enjoy.
I even remember the day-glo door edge guards that I can see, a real piece of 70's kitch. |

Thanks Scotty, I'm quite chuffed too. It wasn't cheap, but they hardly ever come up for sale and this one was nearly on the doorstep. So far all I've done really is polish the chrome, top up the oil and lubricate the gear linkage, but more will happen soon

The optional EKCO valve radio cost £32 in 1952, which is the equivalent of about £700 now, so not many Atlantics had them fitted. Sadly it doesn't work, the fuse was blown so I replaced it and it now lights up but doesn't do anything more. Probably not a lot wrong with it. but it needs someone like Peter Scott to look at it as I'm hopeless with this sort of thing! |

Very Very nice , but what a dilemma ? do you do just enough to get it roadworthy and reliable. Or go the whole hog and restore it ? I know what I would choose "MO" _________________ A vehicle can be restored at any time, But is original only once ! |

Hello Richard,
well done on aquiring a nice car. I see you have an A35 like me, must be a trend as Paul Cantey had an Atlantic and A35's as well. I see your car is different to mine in that you have the earlier pull down rear window and screw fixed rear window frame. Your roof looks better than mine, you can buy the right black Everflex material from Boyriven Ltd in Andover. The material on yours doesnt look the right pattern. I should think this is a 1950 or 51 car. Is that right? Thanks, George |
