A few of you might know me,ive got a morris 8 that im restoring.

A friend told me about a humber thats for sale, so I popped down this afternoon to have a look. Its 4 door, green with black interior which I believe is correct. Never heard it running as there was no battary, but told its a runner by my friend. Itsin pretty good nick, inner sills havebeen patched and found a tax disc from 2006 so its been on the road a few years ago.

So what do u reckon its worth? Are they common? And what are parts like to get hold of?

Thanks

Martin

Humber made cars for decades, which model are we talking about?

I am sure you appreciate that it is difficult to give estimates of value without an examination of the car.Is it possible to get the engine running?

The value must be lower for a non runner.

A picture would help. Regards Kels

Wasn't the Sceptre a smartly-dressed version of the Super Minx? I'd have thought engine parts wouldn't be a problem to get hold of.

Value is impossible to say with any accuracy without seeing it in person, £800-1200 maybe? assuming its not a rotter, has good interior and chrome trim, and runs without smoke etc.

I can't remember the last time I saw an 'Arrow' range Humber Sceptre at a show, let alone on the road - must be very rare now.

What year is the Humber steammart?

See http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5025&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1440 for the Mk I Sceptre. The later one with the Super Minx front was not as good looking.

The 1592cc engine is a really good one and lasts a very long time.

I know of one which is owned by somebody in the Rhos on Sea area.
It's "N" registered in metallic blue and the last time I saw it, perhaps two years ago, it looked original and superb. It was locally registered as well :
GCC ***N which means it was probably sold new either by Red Garages in Llandudno or Slaters in Abergele.

A local headteacher bought one of the very last ones in this local area, an "R" registered example in a metallic gold when he retired in 1976.

The then local garage owner, Mr Bill Watkins, bought a new one in 1971 - LFF 736J, again in metallic blue. When he changed it for a Chrysler Sunbeam in 1978 it was severely corroded.

I thought that all versions were handsome cars. One local resident had one DWD 359C in a metallic dark grey - the type with twin headlamps and he maintains to this day that it was one of the best cars he ever owned.

Any more news on the Humber? A green Mk1 is today's featured car photo on the main site homepage. I wouldn't mind a Mk1 sometime myself, the later Arrow-line cars don't appeal too much though.

I forgot about this post Shocked

I bought the humber. Got her running a cleaned up abit (been stood outside for 4 years) after looking at her a bit closer I decided, it needed a bit more work than I wanted to do, so stuck it on ebay and made a nice little profit and saved a humber sceptre in the process. The chap that bought it ran a restoration firm, so its gone to a good home Very Happy
