Got the old Dandy out yesterday, not used for a while. Damp had got to the fabric. Anyone had any experience of repairing these?

Hi
It would be my luck to turn up on a campsite, open it up and find that!
Best of luck with it!

Dear Mr Snail
Did you get anywhere in restoring the Dandy?
If you still have it in the same condition this may inspire you:

Can't quite work out the condition of the PVC from your photos even replacement PVC can be found. I think the roof is the only irreplaceable item.

I sold my Chateaumobile a few years ago, towed it 50 miles, opened it to show the purchaser how to erect it and... you guessed. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. Dear Mr Itch, thanks for the link. My Dandy project is on hold while I work on my six other caravans. I'm not sure if it is worth the amount of time and money it would take to restore. It has not been on the road for over ten years. We had many happy trips in it in the 1970's, then got a motor caravan, and now trailer caravans. Sad to see it like this, but the chassis has rotted badly, and little salvageable of the roof. I did think of making a folding caravan out of it. I drew up some plans and made a scale model. However, it would then have no classic value. So I'll leave it for now!
ps thanks everyone for comments! |
