Hi All,
I recently joined the forum and only now have I managed to find the time to introduce myself. My primary interest is those long forgotten workaday cars of the 1980s (Talbot Horizon, Nissan Cherry etc). I also have a deep fascination with old Soviet & Eastern Bloc cars - Trabant, Wartburg & Zil etc. Basically, if history has generally been unkind to it, I tend to be interested in it!
My pride and joy, is my 1986 (1987 Registration) Fiat Panda 1000S which has been in the family from new. I drove this everyday until February 2010, when the rust finally became too much and forced a SORN. In the coming years, I intend to restore it to original condition, even if finding parts is becoming ever more difficult.
My other specific interest is vehicle safety development over the years. I am very interested the history of seatbelts, airbags and various aspects of car construction with regard to safety. I am always looking for articles on seatbelts, old adverts regarding any safety products and of course the old products themselves!
Anyway, I hope that’s not too long for an introduction and I look forward to getting more involved in the forum in future!
Gary. |

Thinking of getting a Trabant myself. I had one some years ago and once it was properly set up I found it really reliable and economical.I used it for travelling to work every day |
