I thought the opening ceremony was really good. Pity about Mohammed Ali. He should never have been there in that condition and as for Paul McCartney his voice is well gone. I think its a lot of good money spent gone down the tubes as well as our great medal hopes. Roll on the football season. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I'm not sure why this is in 'General Motoring & Other Collectables' but I was all set to put down the Olympics as an expensive distraction that we could do without however the opening ceremony has been praised around the world (apart from the old geezer who came on to sing at the end) and so far the disruption to Londoners has been minimal as far as I can tell from press reports.
Although I won't be watching any of the competitions on a day to day basis, if Team GB does well I shall be pleased. If it doesn't then I'm sure they'll have all done their best. |

All set to be my usual curmudgeonly self about the Olympics.
The establishment with its snout in the trough yet again. No real gain to the likes of you and I... etc.etc.
Danny Boyle's efforts have gone some way to change my mind. The Queen and Mr Bean did draw a smile and I couldn't help but admire the determination of some of the smaller nations in proudly fielding their teams in a way that portrays a deep and traditional meaning to sportsmanship. Good on them!!
Still messes with the television schedule though and Since when did 'to medal' become a verb? |

Hi
I loved the music overlaying the helicopter flight The Dam Busters March, referencing:- Fawlty Towers "Don't mention the war", the reason we were asked to put on the '48 Olympics and also why certain places in the Olympic Park and the rest of the EastEnd were available to be developed for 2012. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hi
Definitely transport related>
Did any one else notice how many of the paper covered cars, subsequently unwrapped for the Madness and Pet Shop Boys sections in the closing ceremony were classics, and did any of them belong to contributors on here.
Bay Window VW
Big Healey
T? MG
Frogeye
A real Mini
A number of Midgets or MGBs, some black bumpers.
I think a Ford Corsair.
Probably more which I didn't spot.
