OK so my Merc 190 passed its MOT on Wednesday. Test station is about a mile away, drove home and as I approached car park gates noticed the brake pedal traveling a long way. Parked up, and this morning checked fluid - nearly empty!Shocked Filled it, pumped footbrake, which now went nearly to the floor, then looked underneath. Rear nearside wheel sitting in a pool The brake pipe must have failed just as I left the test station - they are a good lot and wouldn't have missed something like that. There was an advisory on the handbrake so a new set of shoes arrived today. She will now sit there til friends day off next Thursday when all will be repaired (I am in a wheelchair so can no longer do such things Sad )

It just goes to show that even a new MOT doesn't guarantee a safe vehicle.

I have to say that my MOT man is a right stickler for brake pipes, the slightest bit of corrosion and an advisory is issued

Quite right to:

the pic below is of a brake pipe that burst during an MOT test, it failed under the pipe clip. Had the pipe not burst the NT would have probably only given an advisory as the visible corrosion is not more than the 1/3 thickness that would have failed the pipe.
