Oh dear, I am rather upset . I have a feeling that was mine until a few weeks ago and if it is the one, I gave it to someone in good faith for use in a restoration. I won't name any names in case I am quite wrong, but studying the pictures I took of mine, the bends are in all the same places.
Only recently I wrote a blog all about the restoration of classics bringing the best out in people and about how we all help each other out. Now I feel very discouraged.
I am all in favour of us sharing parts, swapping bits, helping each other out, gratis, but it strikes me as quite wrong if someone takes something which you have given them for free (to use on a resto) and then sells it for profit. |

| Truman agrees. He and I salvaged the rack from the Goat Lady's van, mentioned before. |

Hi
That is rather naughty, if you wanted to do that, fair enogh but tell them in the first instance! Bit wrong to take it for using on your vehicle to make a profit!
Hope you find it wasn't your one!
Cheers
Dave
P.S... I haven't seen you around the forum much lateley, how are you getting on? |

I have talked to the chap we gave it to and he says he has had second thoughts about putting fixing holes in his roof, so I said I quite understood and that if he decides not to use it we would like it back, and he said yes, but it was his chance to say that he wasn't using it. I mentioned having seen one on ebay, which had made me wonder how he was getting on with ours...and again, he did not take this opportunity to own up.
I'd like to avoid unpleasantness...not least of all because he has a pair of leaf springs of mine which he brought up from Truman's and which I haven't collected yet.
But if I wait until the day of collection to tackle the issue, the auction will already have ended.
So, what would you do? |

Hi buzzy bee, no I have been busy at work etc...not even done anything on van or anything. Just popped in here to see what was going on and saw this about the auction.
Truman says it is definitely the one we rescued. Originally he was going to use it and he did the cutting, so he saw it close up. We are both quite certain.
Incidentally, I am buying a Ford Pop upright on Sunday
I real;ly must read all the threads here; am behind with it all. |

Hi Rivet, nice to see you back on here!!!
shame about the rack, I know where you're coming from but now, I just think, as soon as something's left my driveway, its all out of my control and anything could happen - I had lots of concerns about my little Fords going and the numbers being ripped off them - I don't think it'll happen with the new owner as it happens, but I resigned myself to not having any control once they're gone, and I guess its the same with the rack - a shame, and probably not cricket, but c'est la vie unfortunately...
So whats the Pop like? a runner?

Right, well I have written to the seller urging him in very tactful terms to stop the auction, explaining that if this is the one (and I have suggested which one/ who is involved) the restorer involved has assured me we would get it back if it wasn't used. I've said we want to avoid bad feeling or involving any third party, while disputed ownership is cllarified.
We will wait and see what comes of that. |

did you solve the splaying of your penny farthing frame, Dave? I am fascinated by your blacksmithing and I really do envy you doing it. Any chance of him taking on another "apprentice"?
Do you need a lot of upper body strength? I assume you would. |

Hi
The PF, was remanufactured, Mk 2! I used a homemade headstock and a backbone from much larger tube, with a heavier wall, make the bike heavier but is a joy to ride now (nuless you fall off!) Recon I must have done well over 25 miles since building it, It gets you so fit, I couldn't do a small stretch without feeling tired when I started, now I can do many miles without even thinking about it!
Blacksmithing, is fun, and very creative, have a look at The blacksmiths site, (also Dave!), to see what we do. I am not huge muscle wise by any means, but think since I have started it has started to build me up a little! As long as use use the hammer correctly, you can get some serious pounding very easily!
I think the blacksmith has enough on his plate coping with me! hehe!!
Cheers

Coming here last night brought it home to me how much I have missed. It is good catching up with you guys.
I have written up my feelings about the roof-rack in this blog:
http://tinworm.blogspot.com/
but having blogged I really must make a point of coming back here often. |
