There cannot be any other market town in the UK that has echoed with the sounds of Historic Race Cars driving along their High Street.
This weekend the streets were transfomed into a closed circuit for the race cars to drive demo runs.
It was to celebrate 50 years since Graham Hill won the world championship driving a BRM car.
All of the historic BRM plus other makes of cars were on display and driven through the town.

Classic car owners were invited to enter their cars into the drive through cavalcade along the streets of the closed circuit lined with tens of thousands of spectators and form a 1962 era static street scene afterwards. 62 classic cars took part.

Today in glourious sunshine we watched as Damon Hill,Jackie Stewart and Jackie Oliver to name a few drove some very special cars feet away from the viewing public.
To see Jackie Stewart stop a formula 1 racecar in the middle of the high street, rev the engine to near full chat and do a burnout was amazing.
The BRM V12 MK1 and MK2 racecars was amazing to the ear as Damon Hill came thundering by.

If you go to google images and post in BRM DAY, click on some of the photo`s that appear and you will see some fantastic moments that people have captured of the days events.

I took the Austin Devon along,it was driven to the event by a friend as I had five cars entered.

I let my brother in law take the Hillman Minx along,it is fitted with a Holbay engine and gearbox + modified rear axle and brakes + straight though exhaust system.

Jackie Stewart trying to blend in with the crowd...should have not worn that hat...a dead give away.!!!!

10.00am and one of the paddock areas is full of anyone and everyone, you had to keep an eye out for all sort of people from the motor racing faternity.

The Rover P4 100 was driven by a friend and his wife, talking to them later in the day they said it was admired by many interested people who were genuine about their love of old cars.
