In the 60s I had an ex Post Office telegram BSA125. Later on I had a Honda 50.What a difference the Honda was much nippier and faster. Later on I had a Bond 3 wheeler. Not the best. Must be about 40 odd years since I was on a bike. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I had a Norman Nippy moped in 1962, the pedal power came in handy whenever there was an upward slope in the tramac.
Then a Honda 50, the "looks like a real motorbike" one. It had a habit of falling over, going around corners and I moved on to a more stable platform, a Mini Van.
I have never had a love affair with motorcycles but each to their own. |

Had a brief affair with a Honda 250 Super Dream in the 80's; or wet dream as the proper bikers called them!...After a few close shave's around the streets of Bristol, I went back to 4 wheels!

Yes - I did not bother taking my car test until I was almost 21 as I was not bothered about driving a car even though I had been working on my dad's welding them up etc since I 14. I could and did drive them up and down the drive and over the lawn etc
I started on a 2 year old Honda 50 my granddad gave me for my 16th birthday to pass my test and go to school. My dad the bought me an old 1957 James Cadet 150 with Villiers T/s engine - I resprayed it and went to school on it and went back and forwards each weekend in all weathers to Salford University although I did get a 1961 Reliant Regal Mk6 Side valve which I resprayed in the new Ford Daytona yellow. This was drier but not much warmer and could top 70mph on the M1.
When I started work I bought a new Suzuki GT250 in gold metallic with Ramair cooling - and used this till 1978 but by then the winter salt was attacking the poor Jap chrome and the tube forks. I sold it after getting cold and wet and coming off too often and stayed with cars _________________ Rover P2

I still have a 1939, 600cc Squariel in the garage. Haven't ridden it for 10 years and have lost the bottle to use it again. My son is keen to use it for his wedding transport next year. Wonder if it will still run? _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. Yes it was a Runabout, it shared its engine with that in my current Mobylette.

1972 Lambretta Vega - odd little scooter, very futuristic.
1975 Honda 50 Step-Through - got me there, that's about it.
1977 Honda 125 - nice wee 4-stroke, would buy another one today.
1979 Kawasaki 250Z - brillint 4-stroke, turbine smooth compared to the old Notrtons and BSA's I used to borrow. |

Your's truly in 1965 on the machine I sat my bike test on. I had replaced the clutch on it but used springs from the Heinkel bubble car which almost made the clutch a two handed operation and causing me to stall the engine when I did my emergency stop but the examiner passed me just the same.
I got the funds to buy this machine from an old gent who didn't see me and did a U turn in front of me. Fortunately for me it was raining that day and I was wearing a helmet. My previous machine, a Durkop 200cc two stroke, wrote his car off and I went flying over his bonnet, landing on my head and the tips of my fingers. Had it been a dry day I would have broken my skull.
