Looks like it will be a nice sunny day in the morning,so have readied a classic car (Sunbeam Rapier) to take up to Newark.
Flask of coffee and a picnic,wallet full of dosh,list of items needed...what more could you want.
A wander round,a bit of a banter with the stallholders and some bargains to boot.
This is my type of Shopping...you will not get me into a town centre....bah humbug.

I would make the Coffee in the morning, else it will go cold over night.

I will be working tomorrow.

You should say to the significant other, "Fancy a day out Christmas shopping, get in the car and drive to Newark, see what the reply is! hehe

No problem with the other half going to shows,events,antique fairs,bric a brac shops or autojumbles.
We go to antique fairs at Swinderby,Newark Lincoln and other places whenever they are on.
She loves old antiques and collectables the house is full of them.


As for the coffee and picnic she makes sure we are well provided as she eats half of it.

She has a few cars of her own.

As soon as I turned up with the Magnette on a trailer she claimed it as her own car.
She comes back from Aldi and tells me an old gentleman was admiring one of the cars and chatting to her...are you sure it was not you he was admiring I say.

I've been to Newark a few times but always come away disappointed, rarely finding anything on my shopping list. Do they still mix all the bike stuff with the car stuff? Surely having different areas for each would make much more sense.

I used to really like Newark A/J but somehow I've not been for 20+ years. Next year, when the days are longer, I'll make a point of going.

Dad and I are thinking of going to the resto show at Donington on the 30th, it's been a while since I had a trawl around a 'jumble.

Newark like a lot of autojumbles just does not have the classic car shed,garage, barn or attic finds like say 10-20 years ago.
Stuff must be drying up.
When was the last time you saw a village garage closing down,or a local auction in your area selling classic car spares,I have seen none round here for at least 10 years.

I do not like these sanitised indoor events like the Restoration Show..too many dealers selling new items or professional bygone dealers asking silly prices for enamel signs,petrol pumps or other collectables.

Sometimes you are lucky to find at a small classic car show in the summertime a small autojumble in the corner of the field with some local bargains or a chance conversation with someone who has a barn full of stuff and is getting too old to restore cars anymore.

The Battlesbridge autojumbles are still excellent, with a good mix of private sellers and dealers. Prices seem reasonable as well.

With full time dealers its a different story...
With the costs of getting to big events,the trade stand fees and the fact these guys need to pay a mortgage and pay the bills its little wonder their prices are so high.

Are autojumbles such as Newark any good for finding an old pedal car? So far I've been unsuccessful as Ebay only seem to yield brand new ones or J40s at an eye-watering price and I haven't seen any for sale anywhere else Christmas is already sorted in other ways, but there is always a birthday
