I dont have Twitter. The amount of people you read about in the paper who get dogs abuse on it amazes me. Why dont they just delete it. You read about footballers tweeting and getting caught out and fined.Its sheer stupidity.
I have Facebook but I dont write anything and the amount of people I have never heard of want to be friends with me. And the rubbish some folk write they must have nothing else to do.
I admit these social networking sites are a godsend to many people if used properly but its not for me....But there again my family are probably right. I am still living in the 60s and dont want to change.

I live in the Victorian times, but would be lost without it, for keeping in touch with steam friends mainly, from all over the world to be honest, it would either cost me all my money currently being spent on stuff int he shed on phone bills. lol I was having this discussion today, someone said they use Skype, but not Facebook, you can use Facebook for the exact same thing as Skype, video calls etc, just with added benefits, which you can or can not choose to use.

IT is all free too to the user, which is a big bonus to me!

Loads of companies on there, with lots of offers, I mean for instance if you were into track days, race circuits often drop loads of free days on Facebook to their "followers" or members.

To me it is a good thing.. Just don't go too mad putting stuff you don't want the world seeing, ie your boss, if you have one, or...

It has also got me countless jobs and work, so got to be good!

It's just another way to communicate and like others open to abuse. You just have to use it and not let it use you! Smile

I have little and no interest in any of them and while I can see that they could be potentially useful in the main they are used for nothing more than diatribe - something I see/hear on a daily basis through my job as a teacher. Literally every day there is at least one ruckus at school centred around some social network site or other, whenever you sit students down to sort out a spat you are always waiting for those immortal words 'she tweeted this - he put x on face book'

I've never really understood why people want to hold what are really private conversations in public. Forums are the place for open expression of views and email is the place for private conversations.

To me just seems daft to mix them. Am I missing something?

Well, I haven't been tempted yet, and every news story I see seems to push me further away. I did flirt with myspace back in the day when that was the big thing (mainly trying to meet girls, before I figured out that I didn't need the hassle Rolling Eyes

) and got fed up with people trying to scam me or sell me things. Given the amount of radio ads I hear from companies saying "find us on facebook" I'm hazarding a guess that's basically what it's all about - nothing is really free in this world!

I totally agree Peter, I re-activated my FB page earlier this morning - the first time I've looked at it this year. What a load of rubbish people publish to all and sundry, "I had a productive day today." "Done all my Christmas shopping." "My year in pictures." "Have a look at my Chgristmas tree."

Who cares? Who gives a stuff whether you've got new baubles on your tree this year or that you did something unspecified worthwhile today?

I've no use for such inane rubbish, it'll be deactivated again by the end of the afternoon - friends and family already have enough ways to keep in touch with me.

I'm with Peter Scott too. I think twitter is for" celebs" or wannabees.
Facebook? In my case, I don't really want to know what my nieces have been up to at the weekend and I don't need to know that my sister is in a bad mood today. I don't want to see photos of various nephews drunk and I shudder to see myself "tagged" in wedding photos. Yuk!

I sat in our local health centre this afternoon for about 20 minutes waiting on my appointment and there were 2 women reading their mobile phones constantly.Everywhere you go there are some people looking at their phones.It must be the in thing I guess. Rolling Eyes

I am struggling to understand some of the above posts...

How do some of you like Forums, but not Facebook, they are basically the same thing, surround yourself with "friends" interested in the same thing, like you do one a forum, and talk about it.

I can understand not wanting to hear about the Christmas shopping, but then the people who post it, will get replies, they with their friends may like this, like I like steam engines and old cars, and talk about these. Everyone likes different things, and you only need to read the things that interest you.

Oh and pictures... Smile

Some Facebook Groups have awesome amounts of pictures, original etc, I have found several of my engine in times gone by, never found one elsewhere on the net though.

I think not using FB at all, you will miss out on more than if you do but are selective on what you view on there. You do need to be selective though, of friends and what you read, if you find yourself having to read all of the dribble (dribble in my opinion, probably not the people who write it), your probably going to be in for a rough ride so to say.

I'm on Facebook, but I never bother reading the news feed as it's just full of drivel. It's worth joining simply for all the old car groups though, in my opinion.

I regularly use Facebook

You need to be selective on who you 'are with'

A bit like going into a pub, you don't have to listen to everyone and you only need to talk and listen to friends or people you are with.

I keep in touch with a lot of my old regiment, also air show and other transport groups, It is my decision to join or leave them.

I have just removed all my photos as it was on the news that facebook, as of January, will have the right to sell your photos to third parties without payment, or your knowledge and there will be no opt out from next January.

I'm sure you can google it
