Hi all, not exactly a show, but 3 of us did this in 2011 and it was a really good day.

I am ideally after a couple of cars from the 50's/60's era to attend Southminster Primary School on Friday the 1st February (weather permitting). Richard H came last time in his Austin A55 and if you're available for a repeat day out Richard, it would be great! Or Roger in the DLM would be fantastic too?

The school is repeating it's 'Transport' project for year 2 pupils (that's 6-7 year olds) and it was a really good few hours time spent with some enthusiastic but well behaved children last time.

I am hoping to have my late fathers 1934 Morris Cowley Four there, along with my friends Ferrari 328GTS. Possibly my 1980 Opel Manta, so wanting something from an era in between to show how cars have evolved through the decades.

Any thoughts or people able to make it down there? I think last time we got there about midday ish, and left there around 2.30ish, so if anyone is available again, I'd be really grateful. If I could find my post, I'd link this to the thread and pictures I posted from 2011, but can't find it at the moment. I'll keep looking!

Thanks,

Dave

That's the one, thanks Roger. Would be great if you could make it. If it's snowing, won't be happening mate anyway.

I'm needing someone to drive the Morris now too, I can't manage to drive 3 cars! I'll take the Ferrari, Joy can take the Manta, need to see if my brother can bring the Morris as Dad's sadly not with us now!

More the merrier within reason I think!

Cheers,

Dave

I'm going to say a provisional yes from me, I'm supposed to be at work that day so I'll have to sort out cover. The A55 is off the road now, sadly, but I could bring an A35 along instead (same era).

Here's Smiffy's photos from last time (was it really two years ago?)

Thanks Richard, that was a good day. Nice couple of pics of you talking to Dad too, I really do miss him.

If you can make it, that would be great, thank you again. Any one of your collection would be ideal really mate.

Hoping the Morris will start, it was stubbornly refusing to last time I tried just before xmas. Will try again at the weekend, I hope it can be there.

That will make 5 cars which would be really good if all can make it. Whats the current work being undertaken on the DLM then Roger?

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave
Nothing serious

Had to drop the gearbox to find a nut.

The starter motor jammed and no amount of bumping back and forward would release it.

Took the starter off, easy job, only to find the nut springs and Bendix were missing off the end.

Managed to fish most of the pieces out but some parts has dropped into the bell housing, one large washer and the retaining nut.
Got them out OK.
Just doing some mods, to make maintenance easier, have to remove the bulkhead to get at some parts, don't HAVE to but it makes life easier.

OK if there are two of us, but I'm usually solo so

I have to climb into the car, tape and wedge a spanner one side of the bolt, at arm and finger full stretch, climb out of the car and undo from in the engine bay repeat this for the other five bolts, sometimes the spanner slips so..... etc.etc.

So fixing in some riv-nuts / blind nuts.

Been a bit cold in the garage, not much above 2 degrees, and waiting for the right riv-nuts, ordered the wrong size Rolling Eyes so it's been slow.

Had the same happen to the starter in 2010 and found the nut had sheared the split pin and stripped most of the threads off the end of the shaft and would not hold the nut tight enough.
Also the split pin hole had cracked across the shaft.

We managed to get it all back together and welded the nut to the end of the shaft till I got another starter motor.
Worked OK till last weekend.

I have since bought a job lot, one 10hp complete engine, one 8hp short engine and a few other parts for a Prefect for a good price.

there was also a refurbished starter motor, so will now fit that when the riv-nuts are fitted

Just been too cold to put things back together, but now I have a closer deadline I'll start the heater in the garage and get it done.

Heater takes about 30 minutes to bring the garage up to 10-15 degrees.

Be great if weather permitting you can get it sorted and come down Roger.

Will keep you all updated of times and where etc when I've worked out the logistics of getting my 3 down there and spoken to the school again.

Cheers chaps.

Dave

Well done Roger, that mean you can make it now? Weather permitting?

I can't get my Dad's Morris over now, but my uncle is bringing his Morris 8 instead, so that's just as good. So with the DLM, Richard if he can make it, my Manta and the Ferrari, will have a nice mix.

Now just got to order the weather, and be at the school by 1.15pm on the day. I would suggest coming to me for 1pm mate. Can all go down from here. I'll pm you my address. Might even make you a cuppa mate!

Meant to ask, what was the 'know where I stand now' comment on the EC chatbox all about?

Dave
