just an invite to all you oldtimers out there to scramble the brain cells to remember problems occuring through updated classics. top spot must be for me ;--ford overhead valve 1200cc as fitted to late 107e,105 anglias and cortina mk 1. no problems with the 100e side valve, but the sixties and seventies were littered with breakdowns due to stripped starter ring gears and bendix trouble.i must have changed hundreds of flywheel ring gears over the years---all ford OHV.this problem carried on through the models, even to the cortina mk 2 1500. they modified the bevel of the ring gear and changed the bendix from eleven teeth to twelve but it made no significant change.the only advice the main dealer came up with--tighten starter motor bolts every fortnight as they always came loose! has anyone else got a story to tell ---cheers--ray the rocker....

I had mk1 Cortinas and 105E Anglias and had the same problems. More so with the 1200 than the 1500. I gave up on them and went back to BMC, but I loved my mk1 Cortina and being in my late teens at the time we changed cars every couple of months. I have heard of starters having to be tightened regularly...stick with it...........Larry.
