DVLA have done their stuff, and I now have a registration number - I now just need to make up some plates and update my insurance and the open road beckons...
The forecast is not very good for this weekend, so it may not venture out on Drive-it Day, but all being well I should be at the Thoresby Park Classic Car Show on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May; if anyone from the forum is there, please be sure to say hello. |

That White Glove car has been on the market for a few years, apparently - at that price perhaps that explains why!
Mine has been to a few events, unfortunately attracting lots of rain
At least the sun shone at Crich:
Unfortunately I am fighting fuel feed problems at the moment - it looks like the tank didn't like being left empty for the best part of forty years and is shedding silt. I just hope I don't have to cut it open to clean it up |

I TOOK THE TANK OUT OF MY SAXON MIKE AND PART FILLED IT WITH VINEGAR FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS SHAKING IT REGULARLY. WORKED FINE THOUGH AS A PRECAUTION I USE A FUEL FILTER.
HAVE DONE THE SAME WITH A MODEL T I AM RESTORING JUST NOW THOUGH AS IT IS A HUGE FLAT UNDERSEAT TANK I PUT ON A SMALL PETROL TANK TO RUN THE CAR, PART FILLED THE BIG TANK WITH VINEGAR AND DROVE THE CAR OCCASIONALLY TO STIR IT UP.
JUST TAKES A BIT MORE CLEANING OUT AFTERWARDS WHEN STILL IN CAR.
THIS METHOD OF CLEANING HAS WORKED FOR ME ON MANY CARS THOUGH
I HAVE TRIED THE PRODUCT SLOSH TANK SEALANT WHICH IS ALSO GOOD
BUT A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE AND THE TANK HAS TO BE TAKEN OUT.
REGARDS

I SHOULD HAVE ADDED. IF GOING WITH VINEGAR AS A TANK CLEANER IT NEEDS TO BE WELL FLUSHED OUT THEN THE ACETIC ACID SHOULD BE NEUTRALISED WITH BAKING SODA IN WATER. ALSO IF THE INNER RUST IS BAD I PUT A FEW SMALL STAINLESS NUTS IN IF THE TANK CAN BE SHAKEN.

Thanks, John; I haven't come across the vinegar treatment before - I'll give it a go... |

It has been quite a while since I posted anything on this thread. My troubles with the fuel supply have continued; no matter what I do I still get sediment clogging things up, although it is less frequent than before, and at least I know the problem and have got the fix down to a two minute job! I think the only solution may be to solder a short stand pipe into the outlet to the tank; then any sediment can still collect in the bottom without blocking the feed...
Anyway, I took it up to the Great Northern Festival at the Beamish Museum this last week, and managed sufficient mileage to run out of petrol twice, and flatten the battery too (there's no charging system to replenish the battery). I reckon the car did more miles this weekend than it has done in the last fifty years!
Here it is early on Saturday morning, before the crowds arrived:
... and later in the day, when they had!
It's next outing will be to Thoresby Park on May 5th (Bank Holiday Monday), when it will be celebrating its one hundredth birthday (to the day!) - if you're there, come and say hello! |

We had a fine day at Thoresby today - if a little windy - and the Saxon behaved all day!
Suitably decorated with a 100th Birthday balloon (the second one, the first disappeared when I turned my back!!!!) and supplemented by a plate full of party biscuits (thanks for the idea, Kevin) it provided plenty of interest. I expected the biscuits to go down well with the children, but I think most were taken by adults! |
