I wonder which of todays bikes will become future classics?

For me, one stands out above all others, the Ducati 916. Any other entrants?

For me the Harley V-rod, virtually any Ducati, Moto-Guzzi Griso, and perhap's BMW's oddly styled cruisers.

Fully agree about the 916.....still achingly gorgeous! I rode one once and it was so minimalist my eyes were on a level with the front wheel spindle. I rode it down the runway at RAF Alconbury........it's several miles long, having been designed for use by VERY large military aircraft....got a bollocking from the MP's. Oh well!

Kawasaki GPz 900R, the first of the superbikes. The year they were introduced they came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th on the Island in the production class. I had one, a 1985 model, gave it to number 1 son when I bought the Fireblade.....went for a "spin" together......couldn't lose it....bugger!

welder, have you forgotten the forerunners of the Gpz, the Z1, Z900, and Z1000? Surely they were superbikes also?

Most people reckon the CB750 as the first superbike though....(not me!!!) Very Happy

All of them qualify, without doubt. As regards the Honda I was certainly a fan.
In the summer of 1970 I was hitch hiking to the Cote d'Azure to meet up with some hippy pals and got dropped on the outskirts of a village overlooking the Med, in the back of beyond. It was around 6-00am and I was sitting at the start of a series of bends, nothing much moving, chilling and enjoying the glorious weather and surroundings. I heard a muted howling noise approaching from my left, that's going a bit I thought...soon a red 4 cylinder bike flew by, expertly ridden through the bends. I didn't recognise the bike...4 cylinders? Shortly I heard it returning and stood in the road for a better view, the rider saw me and pulled up beside me, grinning, and I got my first look at a Honda CB750 and it was a thing of beauty. He'd owned it for 4 days and was madly in love with it... 4 cylinders, overhead camshafts, 4 megaphone style pipes, metallic red, chrome and laquered ally finish....I'd never seen anything like this, unless Hailwood was racing it!
That was one of the images I shall always carry......even though he didn't offer me a lift!

At the speed Mike rode, you very rarely saw one then either! Laughing

The first bike race I ever saw was the 1965 Senior, which he won of course......in appalling conditions...
