There used to be a vehicle parked up similar to that behind the post office near to where I grew up. It was immaculate (in the 1980s). I believe the PO used to store their preserved Austin 7 van in it, at least that's the story I heard when I asked about the truck once, but it vanished several years ago.

I don't think it's the same rig, but it was very similar in overall shape, minus the side windows iirc.

Well it is only up the road in Whitchurch, Rick, so you never know it might be the same one. The tractor unit is late 60s early 70s not 50s as stated.

I want that. I can't afford it and have nowhere to keep it, but I want it.

Love the sign....."This position is closed".

Just noticed this post (excuse the pun) I remember them from my Post Office days. They were called TPOs( Travelling Post Office) They were used in remote areas and the islands.

Hi
Can't quite make it out from the photo, but did these have a proper 5th wheel or did they use the Scammel type auto coupling.

I can remember back in the 70's seeing some smaller Ford D series delivery vans using the Scammell type.

Bri,the tractor is indeed a late 50's-early 60's Austin unit. This cab was followed by the FJ model in 64/65.
That's not to say it couldn't be still in service in the 70's.many were.
