[The Oldtimers]

Our 1966 Carlight Caribbean is in need of a paint job. During the winter it is covered up, and this week two workmen managed to rip the cover and dint and scrape the side of the van. We were not too pleased, they went off very quickly, and the next morning we discovered why.

Insurance will cover the dint and scrape, a patch has gone on our expensive caravan cover, we are waiting for the chap to come and give us his estimate. Matching the paintwork is a huge problem, it is a metallic silver, and goes perfectly with our Disco.

So, do we bite the bullet, and have a total re-spray, gulp? Do we try and have the colour matched, and get the one panel done professionally, thus showing the rest of the van up? Or, does Ted get on his ladder, and paint the whole thing by hand?

Already we have done paint jobs on four of our previous vans, but we do depend on weather, etc.

The colour match will be the hardest by far, as we have no record as to what paint was used.

Hi Sue/Ted. Oh dear! Did you remonstrate with the builders?

Anyway, a (very) good paintshop, with the right equipment, should be able to match virtually any colour, and even allow for "ageing".
It probably won't be cheap, but it can be done, and afterall, the builder is paying, isn't he?

Yes, Emmerson, we have phoned the firm, and the men who came to look yesterday (not the ones who did it), took photos.

Sorry to hear about this incident. You surly must be able to make the firm pay your repair costs. Might be worth telling them you might take them to the small claims court if they get slippery.

Phoned the cavity wall insulation firm whose men made the dint in the van, and tears in the caravan cover. Asked them to agree in writing that they will pay for the damage, and they cannot do this until we have submitted estimates.

Friend of my oldest sons is a body repairer, and is coming to look at the job, doesn't live that near to us, so we have to wait. I have phoned one or two other places, but they don't do caravans.

As it is now the weekend, we will wait until Monday before having another go at the cavity wall insulation firm.

It will get sorted one way or another, but we are having all the inconvenience at the moment.
