We have just had our first night out in the Fawn and as you can see from the picture she was the oldest and smallest one there, there were all these people in their huge caravan all with TV electric, ovens etc and what did we have - a wind up lamp, two gas burners and a grill but we survived.
now we have had the first run out have realized that she need a lot more welding to make her safe at the front end, so simon & my brother this morning started pulling her to bits to do the welding under the kitchen units. hopefully all will be safe and secure for next Friday when we should go to the cheltenham weekend, at least when we get there she will be with vans more of her age

Hi
It doesn't matter being the odd one out, in fact it is good to be different, I should know!
I think the other campers must have been curious of such a cool combo!
Cheers
Dave
P.S... You need a stationary engine and gen set, with a nice old black and white tv, so you have all of the mod cons too! |

Si & Jayne, you wait until August when Waveney area Post Vintage HUmber club hit Derbyshire. Our campsite won't know what's hit it when we all turn up.
Glad you had a super time. |

Glad your first trip went well.
Did you watch any of the modern caravan owners go through their set up routine?
I pull up, unhitch, wind the steadies down by hand, switch on the gas and battery electrics, put my waste water tank under the back, and have a cup of coffee ready - all within 8-10 minutes. (I carry some water in my on-board tank when travelling.)
I have watched the moderns take 2-3 hours setting up all their gadgets: electric steady winders, filling aquarolls, awnings with carpets, generators, satellite TV's, etc etc.
I prefer my caravanning to be basic - just like it was when our vans were new! |

| Our caravanning was nice and basic and very relaxing , looking at all the others with pipes for this that and the other , we did wonder if it was a break from the normal routine (mini holiday) or home from home with every creature comfort. |

Some of the modern caravans are super inside, complete with full running hot & cold water, showers, fixed double / king size beds etc.. But you'd need a huge tow car, 4x4 etc. And then you'd have to change it every few years to keep up with the Jones. And think about the depreciation.
If I remember I'll let you borrow my Cool Camping guide book. It suggests that you take your best china dinning service with lead crystal glasses and not forgetting your feather quilt. |
