Do you know, I think you're right.
I had a look at the few photos that are on the Adam Adamant page. It does indeed look like a Radford. Very well remembered!
I had forgotten the registration number as well -AA 1000. There is one colour photo, a modern one I would say of the car and it shows a green car with a silver roof with a Webasto sunroof but whether this is the actual car from the series or a very good replica I don't know.
Does anybody remember "Nuts in May" from about 1980 with Alison Steadman? Her and her husband's car was a genuine Morris Minor Convertible in that programme.
Who can forget Bodie and Doyle from The Professionals?
Triumph Dolomite Sprint, Ford Escort RS200 Mark 2 and a 3.0 litre Capri among others. I remember reading that in the earlier series when British Leyland lent ITV the cars that they had to be returned to BL each day for safekeeping and was most awkward in accommodating the TV prooduction crew.
When the series changed to Ford cars, unrestricted use and availability of the cars was allowed to ITV.
I have just remembered one largely forgotten series from the early 1970s -Owen MD, played by Clive Stock where he drove an Antique Gold coloured Wolseley 6.

Black or green Ellis? I really wouldn't know, the TV in my mum's house was black and white.
I had heard the same story about the Professional's Dolomites, also that BL never gave them the same cars two days in a row!
Now for another oddity..... The BL Metro Turbo cabriolet run by one of the Doctor Who girls. It was a coachbuilder's job and not one of Rover's own 100 Cabbys. Which leads us to John Pertwee's Siva Edwardian Roadster based on a Ford Pop! |

Rather overlooked this thread.
I do remember the Dolomite as the only occasion I have seen one on film - and all too brief!
My Dad had a maroon one just after the war. My favourite car. The Dickie Seat added to the flavour.
Too young to understand then, but it had apparantly been imported and sold on without Purchse Tax being paid (as required then). Dad had to sell it to pay the Purchase Tax or face a conviction, though he did not know it was a re-import.
Poirot episodes fascinate me, though it is amazing how often he manages to hail the same Taxi-Cab!. Several times I have spotted vehicles well out of period on there. One I remember particularly was a heaarse on an Austin FX3 chassis of post 1949 vintage. I remember that because we had and FX3 hearse brand new (PRA 221) around 1950. _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you

Victor Meldrew? Hillman Avenger I think. |

Right from the bottom of my memory(that's a looooooong way down ),I remember a program from the late50's-early 60's called "dial 999".The opening credits rolled to a background of a person entering a phone box,and dialing 999.Then you would get to see a police Wolseley (6/99?) tearing around a roundabout,to the accompaniment of a strident bell and (presumably) blue light.
That's all i remember of the series.
Did anyone mention Dennis Waterman's Capri, and George Coles'Roller in Minder?
Maigret used a Traction Avant Citroen in the original series.
The Saint's Volvo P1800,going on to the facelifted version later on.
Starsky and Hutch(known locally as starchy and stiff) Ford Torino.
Steed drove a Bentley in the original series, with mrs.Peel sporting a Lotus S2 Elan.
A fairly recent series had Stephen Fry driving a classic Alvis convertible as a lawyer in a smallish town.
And how about the inimitable Don Adams as Maxwell Smart? The opening credits showed him arriving in a Sunbeam Alpine, which was later updated to a Tiger. There was also a VW Karmann-Ghia convertible, but I don't know if this was before or after the Sunbeams. The Kaos gang sometimes had a Mercedes 220 at their disposal.
Are we bored yet? |

I am having to stir up a few of my remaining brain cells. I am sure Dial 999 was in black and white. On the opening credits, Dial was on top and 999 was directly underneath. Am I right or wrong ?
I think the opening credits were shot at night. |

'Dial 999 - in London that's what you do to call the police ...'
Robert Beattie starred as a Canadian working in Scotland yard
The Dial came up first followed by 3 individual 9's. Yes it was b&w and yes the opening credits were shot at night |

Beat you to it They later had a Honda Ballade that Victor hated so much he left the keys in it in an attempt to have it stolen. Eventually the car was stolen, sadly it was subsequently found by police in Finland! and returned to them _________________ Richard Hughes |
