Kelsham has introduced the concept of high rate discharge meters for testing batteries. Most people will not have of these, which is used in a workshop primarily to test batteries OFF the vehicle.
Testing the battery voltage with an ordinary voltmeter while cranking the engine with the ignition circuit disabled does the same thing safely and easily as I mentioned in an earlier post. If the cranking voltage of a well charged battery falls below 10.8 volts within 5 to 10 seconds it is scrap. _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you

turns out the strap didnt work! very cold up here in the mornings, and the car just would want to start. took my battery down to halfords to get it tested by their smart voltmeter type thing. it said that my battery needed charged (after i had charged it). i left it with them to charge over night then test! i turned up this morning and it was still charging. it went from 40%charge to 65% charge in 14 hours, after a long discussion they gave me a new battery, though they were not happy to do so. lets see it will start tomorrow morning in the cold _________________ 1985 Mini Mayfare (1275)
