Hi David - There are rumours of more than 20 classic caravans coming from England to the 2015 event. _________________ Brian

| We'll be coming too, although gone up in the world from last year's Triumph 2500S and 1958 Sprite Alpine and got a Rover P6 and a 1967 Safari 15/4! |

A Rover Cameron? What happened to the Triumph? What sort of condition is the Safari in? Brian will be pleased though! _________________ David Rachel

Well it drives a bit better than the Triumph and isn't a 3-speed Auto that gets us a painful 15mpg! After last years' fuel bill from that three week tour, we decided it would probably be the last time we took the Triumph abroad. It's been playing up a bit too recently, so will be off the road a bit while the restoration continues.
The Safari was advertised as mint when we bought it. It's fully original, but needs a fair amount of TLC to freshen her up. Should be up to show condition by next May. But a bit annoying all the same as we wanted one that needed no work doing to it. The unusual thing about it though is that it's the only Safari on Brian's register to have left the factory with two doors - one either side - for continental use! We either wanted to bring that or our really rare Regency Balmoral, but that weighs 1500kgs and is 18ft long so not something to take on a trip to Europe! I'm still voting to take my 1962 Sprite Musketeer which should be finished by then, but Chris doesn't want to take a Sprite again! lol. Shame; it's going to be painted to match the Luna Grey (which is actually green!) on my Rover so would look fantastic! |

Well looking forward to seeing you both again, shame about the Triumph but I guess the Rover is also a comfortable car; should be quite a combination with the Safari; how exciting!
We've booked the Eurotunnel because there are some great deals available as Caravan Club members, and it gets us away from the dreaded school parties on the grotty ferries! _________________ David Rachel

Re the schools on the grotty ferries, I assume you're talking about Dover Calais on P&O?
Might I suggest you try DFDS to Dunkirk? Much more pleasant, and cheaper Last year (2014) was £79.00 return, I think.
We can't use the tunnel, a) cos I'm claustrophobic, and b) cos we run on LPG, and the operators won't accept LPG vehicles.
We haven't booked the boat yet, but we'll be travelling mid-April and returning mid June I think. |

Yes, the Dover - Calais route! In my days as a rowing coach I too was responsible for numerous kids, even if they were invariably from private schools! It's a shocking ferry though!
With the Eurotunnel we go into the caravan and have a short kip! Very relaxing as it sways around a little as the train trundles along _________________ David Rachel

I'm not sure when you've booked your crossing for David, but Brian and myself have been trying to organise something of a convoy from the UK to the rally. It's early days yet in terms of organising, but if we happen to be travelling at the same time as you, you'd be more than welcome to join us. Even if it meant tagging along once we all get into France.
So far we've got seven confirmed outfits for travelling together, a real mixture of caravans dating from the 1930's to 1970's. In that group, only ourselves and Brian have been to the event before. From memory there's a 1937 Car Cruiser, 1960 Car Cruiser Clubman, 1967 Safari 15/4, 1967 Safari 13/4, 1974 Welton, 1978 Safari 15/4, 1979 Carlight Continental (two berth version) but plenty more people interested.
