|
|
When we started to repaint the outside of our caravan a few months ago, someone took the grab rails off the caravan and now it's finished and I've tried to put them back I'v noticed the some of the screws spin in theirs holes and don't want to go back.
Might sound a silly girlie type question, but would putting slightly bigger screws in help? Or do we need to do soemthing else?
(I told you it was a silly girlie type question didn't I)

I replied on the Safari group, but thouhg this might interest other classic caravan owners.
It is the condition of the timbers behind the grab handles that really counts.
If it has got the dreaded damp in it then no matter how big the screws are, you will not be able to use the handles again!
But it is possible that your is in an "in-between state" where the original screws have opened up too big a hole in the timbers, but there is still some structural integrity remaining.
When I rebuilt my front end, to refix my handles, I got some longer bolts with one inch diameter washers and dome head nuts for the inside. I had to enlarge the holes in the base plates to take the bolt, but it wasn't too much of a task, and my handles seem to be very firm! The other necessity is to fill the drilled holes with sealant and cover the base plate, then remove the excess when it is all tightened up. |

Dave, you're not alone with the that, so did I!
Cheers Brian, I think that might be a job for the winter.
Right you clever bunch, now you've helped me with that one. We've just been given a Theftford Porta-potti 165 and I'm confussed over the chemicals. My folks say as we're going away for a weekend and it'll only be the kiddies using the loo for emergancies, coule we use just water in it? I'm thinking that this might damage the seals or smell |

With regard to the screws, you might find it best to use those capture type clips - thin pieces of sprung steel which are folded over and have a small screw-size hole through the centre of both parts - can't for the life of me think what their proper name is, though...
They're used all over vehicles, usually for fixing trim/window channels/interior - check the backs of old headlights, they have an adjustable version. |

SIMON!!!! Don't be so crude!
No, Lizzie insisted on doing a wee Sunday night but only because she didn't want to go into the loos where all the ladies were getting ready to go down to the bar. It was like a hairdressers salon in the loos come 8pm in the toilet/shower block at the Nats! |

Hi
Not really on topic, but I often see "Posh" ladies wearing high heels when they attend ploughing matches or countryside events, really funny, seeing not only their heels sink, but there whole shoe and foot right past there ankles!
Sorry shouldn't laugh! hehe
Cheers
