After hearing buzzy's successes with weighing scrap metal items at the local yard, I decided to clear out some of my surplus junk. Nothing good went, just stuff that was beyond hope, such as an E83W door, Standard 10 subframe, some old coil springs, and other old junk.
Suitably weighed in, with a welcome £32 burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to have a quick mooch around as it is some time since I had a root round a yard.
One hour later, with Lid and Harley (his first time to a scrapyard) sat patiently in the car outside, I walked out with two new pieces of junk, and a mere £2 left in my pocket. Photos to follow

All that lifting for £2.... it doesn't even buy me a cup of coffee!!
Can't say that either myself or young Harley enjoyed the smell of the place, sort of a combination of old oil and tyres......
Not my idea of a trip out - although I'm sure Rick disagrees with me here. He was there for that long that I was very tempted to drive off and leave him behind!!!!
I'm sure he'll be calling in on a regular basis now, I know who won't be volunteering to tag along in the future!!!

I love the place, and a friendly scrap man, I have never found one before!
Sorry if it was my fault! I did bring the subject up.
Cheers

ok my wise purchases, firstly, an old cast iron 'finger post' sign, pointing towards a local village, not sure whether to leave it as-is or paint it up? hmm
and secondly, a rescue job - I couldn't bear to think it'd end up being melted down and turned into a fridge - a bonnet from what I think must be a 30s MG, complete with fine bonnet catches. Anyone got an idea which MG this is off?
Apart from a couple of bent corners it isn't toooooo bad
Needless to say, as soon as she clapped her eyes on these two fine gems, erindoors was overcome with emotion...

My Local Breakers Yard is run by a family of classic enthusiasts. There is a classics corner where older cars are not stacked, and they will not crush until the shell has been picked clean.
There is a Singer Gazelle Estate that has sat there for about 10 years and several others for at least 5 years. Currently: MGBGT, Saab 96, Lancia Flavia, 2 Amazons, Dolomite, Cortinas, Rover P4 and P6 and probably some others I have missed.
Great place for a morning out. _________________ Brian
