I can see the list of items but when I click on one I get a message telling me my access is blocked for legal reasons in certain countries.

Is it just me?

Well I've just had a look.

And I think you're correct.

I could see the listings, but clicking on one just gave me the message that non-French speakers are not allowed in!

Dear Member

Unfortunately, access to this object has been blocked because of legal restrictions in force in some countries. Under these restrictions, we are trying to block the display objects. We regret to inform you that for technical reasons, some ads does not fall under these restrictions may not be accessible to users. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience and we hope you find more interesting objects on eBay.

Thank you.

I remember some time ago not being able to bid on certain auctions in France, because the seller hadn't enabled overseas bidders to bid on their lot(s) when they were listed, but I've never been blocked from viewing something before.

Its not just you I am a french member and I get them too
I asked FR ebay and was told that some of the french companies especially perfume houses are putting legal restrictions on Ebayers if there is a pop-up or java advert with their name on like givenchy etc, Ebay are fighting it at the moment and hope to have a solution soon... so I am told

Found on another forum:

I asked this on the Ebay boards and got a very quick reply. It appears that if a French seller lists something they can only sell it to France if they don't offer Paypal, and who would on 5,000+ euro car The ads were also classifieds, but I don't know if that matters. Someone on Ebay has also had the same problem with Germany and cars.

Which does seem to be right, you can view cars offering PayPal

And a work around if the item is blocked

Just tried going on eBay.fr and it's doing the same thing for me now. Interestingly I found that if I have eBay.co.uk open in a separate window I can copy the item number from the url on .fr and paste it into the search box on .co.uk and it comes up fine.

Just Ebay adding another restriction to ensure that everyone uses PayPal.

Cool that works for me, I tried everything else and thought maybe it was because it was picking up the fact I was in France by my IP address even though I have a french username and french account and a UK username and an english account
I can bid on an R4 carb now

yes unfortunately they do, what is even more annoying is the fact they can just hold money for "security reasons" someone sent me 1000€ and it was immediately frozen while they investigated whether I was "laundering it"
Last week I sold something on Ebay only to have £320 frozen until the person received the item and good feedback was entered.
For me this was 4 days holding the 1000€ and 12 days holding £320 if they do that to a lot of ebayers how much money and interest are they holding?
I also now understand that sellers are not allowed to give negative feedback to buyers...WHY, I have most problems with buyers

and you have to watch out for dodgy buyers who claim they never received the goods even if they did, and claim the money back via paypal, leaving the seller without item or ££, and unable to leave f/back accordingly Confused

You know the rules - they are there for all to see. If you don't like it then don't use it!

The feedback thing is because most Ebay sellers were withholding feedback until the buyer posted +ve feedback. This hacked me off because even if I paid immediately and then got messed around by the seller if I left an honest opinion I would get -ve feedback despite being a good little ebayer.

I reckon it should limited - ebay sellers can only leave -ve feedback if they do so BEFORE the buyer leaves their feedback (+ve or -ve) and thereafter neutral/+ve.

I like ebay but only within certain limits.

Ebay basically have a monopoly on the auction area of the web, so they take advantage, with extremely poor Customer service.

I emailed them about the negative feedback issue for sellers and they replied saying, something like this:- all genuine ebay sellers are happy witht he changes. Well obviously they are not, as I am not, and at least dozen friends aren't, so maybe they are saying I am not a genuine seller.

They need to brush up on Customer care skills, or one day in the non to distant future they will get a kick in the teeth as another site, takes over their line of business

Anyway that is what I think!

Cheers

Dave
