Hello,
I am starting work on this one a Viking Fibreline made in Heads Nook nr Carlisle, by Viking Rendezvous Tours Ltd who started work on the site of a former mill in 1965,the design was of South African origin.
Are there any other Viking owners out there
They are a strongly built caravan, the interior is of good quality also.
I am giving it a full exterior respray and the interior will be throughly cleaned, the timberwork will be prepared and given a beeswax finish,no other major work is required.
This is a one owner caravan sold locally by a long standing local dealer, and found about 3 miles from my home.
Regards

We have a 1980 2 berth, which we just love, use it behind our 1965 Series 2a Landrover for shows and when out at other vintage shows, bed is huge and we do all our food in the cooker, bone dry inside and tows a treat.

Hello Andy,
Do you know of any other Viking Fibreline owners.?Is there an owners club or someone out there for spares,I had details of someone in Lincolnshire but could not contact them.
I would like to find out more about the different models and how they differed, prices at launch etc.
For a modern type caravan I do like the quality timber interior of our caravan compared to other makes of the same period, nearly everyone else was cost cutting and going over to photofinish panelling and cheap looking interiors, the curves to the exterior panelwork and the interior fittings give it a far better solid feel.
It would look nice behind this With its curved glass.
1956 Hillman Minx Californian.
Regards
Mark

Hi, I have owned a few Viking caravans and like them very much, I think they are greatly underrated. There is a Viking Owners Club but unfortunately they no longer have any Vikings and have moved on to new 'vans, when I enquired they knew of no other clubs that were for Vikings and had no knowledge of obtaining spares Sorry not to be more helpful. |

I have never seen a real one just plenty on Ebay over the last few years.
Looks like an easy restoration but photos can be decieving, does it meet much doing?
Metalkoi... I recognised that name straight away from the Series 2 Forum _________________ Mick

As mentioned in the first post, the exterior is undergoing a respray, the interior is all original and in very good condition,(apart from a small repair after some water ingress around the door frame and front window a common problem I have noticed, )which I have now finished.
As this caravan only had one owner it has been looked after.
This is an early model with a very nice quality interior,I think like a lot of manufacturers in the 1970`s they started to cut cost`s and cheapened the final finish.
I have always found it better to find an early model of any caravan the quality is always better, the manufacturers have to capture the market, Cheltenham Caravans are a good example solid timber in the 1960`s,photofinish panneling in the 1970`s. Early Vikings had curved windows to the front, later ones did away with this feature.

Hello,
Thanks for the photo`s,the first caravan shown looks very nice.
I think these are the original colours they came in. I am respraying one at the moment and want to get it right.
When purchased our caravan was cream all over,I think it looks better two tone.
Do you happen to know the colour names or codes.
I too have found it difficult to contact the club.if there is one
It would be nice to know more about them, numbers built, sizes of caravans etc, or does anyone have a copy of an original sales brouchure.Would they be so kind as to email me a copy of one. That would be great...

I am a new viking fibreline owner. I tried to contact the viking club and received an email back saying the club was no longer running. Maybe we should re-start one?!
I have started a new post regarding some issues I am having with my new van. I would be grateful if anyone who owns one of these lovely caravans could give me and advice.
I just love my new caravan and want to do everything I can do to preserve it.
Thank you.
PS I have a copy of the sales leaflet outlining the models of viking fibreline for the year, and also a price list! Metalkoi, you're model at the top (identical to mine), was just under 4k new! Anyone wanting a copy, I can scan in and email if you pm me your emails.

Hello, And welcome to the classic and vintage caravan fraternity.
As a Viking owner myself I think you have made a good choice by getting one of these lovely little caravans.
I am carrying out a full respray to mine at present. But to do it properly the windows, doors, lights, handles and trim etc needs to come off.
After the respray the trim will be refitted (sealed),window frames polished then refitted (sealed) along with all the other ancillaries.
The weak point to these caravans is the front and rear windows ,and the main entrance door, you must keep water out of these areas.
It is only the break up of the sealant that allows water to get into these areas,so replace with a more modern flexible product and you will be laughing.
Regards

Hi Mark,
Would you be able to explain to me about taking the trims off and sealing and refitting? Is it an easy job that I might be able to do myself? Or should I pay someone to do it. I have a feeling this may be causing the water ingress.
At present I have run some silfix along the top of all the trims near where the water is coming in. I chose silfix as it is clear and the van has just been resprayed.
However, I am not realising that I should take the trims off and use silkaflex to fill properly?
Do you know where you can get the rubber seals for the windows from?
I love your van. My friend has the same one which she too bought off ebay. Shes had no problems with it! They are well built little vans. |
